SS Power Amp

Post by C Moore »

I have just a basic understanding of guitar amps / tube electronics. I really have no experience with solid state stuff or transistors. The only thing I know about a transistor is Emitter, Collector, Base.
Can one of you guys tell me how to test a transistor with TWO Emitters? My son has a power amp for his CB radio. It has a few burned up resistors and I am wondering how to test the transistors. I have a soldering iron, 12VDC power source, and a DMM.
Thank You

Don't know if this is any help (from about page 57 onwards) for troubleshooting transistor amps. (I don't understand much about 'silicooties' either.)

There is only on emitter, but two connections to increase grounding surfaces, which is important in RF . th higher the frequency the better grounding needed. In essence it tests as any other transistor, but RF power circuits often or mostly have very low DC paths, so in-circuit testing is difficult - often impossibel even with specialised in-circuit testers.
Here's the data sheet

Thanks for the info.
So how do I test a Transistor when it is out of the circuit...?
If I de-solder these guys, is there a way to tell if they are bad/good...?
Thanks

On the data link sheet is a test circuit but it is a little in depth. Here is a link to a simple test circuit I use.
