Peavey Artist combo

Post by Cliff Schecht »

A guy in town is selling this amp for $300 on CS. It's a Peavey Artist 240 with a 15" speaker and 4x6L6 compliment. It has a SS preamp which worries me, but I'm considering using it for parts or may build something else in it. I even have a nice 70's EV 15L to put in the amp if I get it. Seems like it isn't worth more than about $200-$250, probably closer to the former. Thoughts or comments?

I've taken 3 of these amps anf converted them to Dumble type amps. 2 were 60 watt 2x6L6 models, the 3rd 4x6L6. I have a Mace in the garage, 6x6L6.

Gut it, punch out a few holes for novel sockets and build whatever you want in the chassis. Tons of room and the iron is good. The only downside, the damn things have to weigh 100 lbs with 2 decent 12's in it.

That's what I was thinking. This is the single 15" model so there may be less room in the chassis. I'm going to go in tomorrow and try to get a deal with this amp. I think it's missing the footswitch which is supposedly a big deal if you want the actual amp. I just want to gut it and put something cool in there though. $250ish isn't too bad for a big project amp like this.
