Ford/Tag thread locked.

Post by dogears »

I hate to have to do it, but for now the thread is locked. Some feathers were ruffled with posting of the gut shot and it is best closed for now.

Why do you have to lock the thread? Pull the gut shot if you must, but I thought this was a "tube amp builder's community" to discuss Dumble amplifiers.

At least I did not delete it.... I was caught in the middle of something and locking is the solution. There is some back story to all this. Be glad info was posted.

Feel free to discuss the amps.

Guys a picture was posted briefly but not with the blessing of the person to whom the picture belongs...
I can assure all that they do not tell anything more then is being discussed.
In fact, I have heard of people attempting to make clones of the amps based on the pictures alone and of course it didn't pan out...
The written information is far more useful imho...

All over resistors and caps and a few tubes. Dumble fanatics wear their pants a bit to tight me thinks...

My question for the few in the know is why turn back now? The picture was posted and I'm sure it's being passed via email to anyone who wants it. It was nice to see a productive thread that brought new info to the group. Does the current owner of 183 feel the amp will loose $10K in value if the world sees a picture of the chassis? Do any of the established builders (for profit) really think they're going to loose a sale if a gut shot is posted of one of their amps? I'm surprised we haven't seen a gut shot or two of Brandon's amps now that he's established himself in the market. It appears the guys at Two Rock are finally comfortable with their business and don't feel the need to try and hide the circuit. Does anyone know what Dumble the TS-1 is a clone of?

Yes but it is how those components are connected that blesses us with the Dumble sound.
If they didn't sound good, there wouldn't be the fuss over them and the high price tags on the few that come up for sale.

I know that after 30 years of playing electric guitar that I finally have an amp that makes me smile every time I plug in.

Then peace will guide the planets

What?
No wood grained boards? Blasphemy!
That looks like the standard ODS fare.

There are quite a few gut shots of Brandon's amps if you go back into the archives. But nothing recent I'm afraid.
I will say, if it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have a D'lator and I think the guys that really kicked this whole thing off was Gil Ayan and Rob Livesey.
If we hadn't had that documentation we might still be guessing.
I think most of us that have built at least one of the ODS type amps have a pretty good understanding about what makes them tick.
But, it's always fun to see someone else's take on it.
That's why gut shots are cool to look at.

And really, to the new owner of #183, there isn't that much discernable from that photo.
You can't read any values on the caps. The only thing you can read is the color codes on the resistors and those can be thrown off by photographic effects.
Possibly only a handful of us here can see any tricks there and as we all know, all amps are different, even if the printed parts values are all the same.

What I can completely understand is that someone posted a picture that they had no right to post without the owners permission.
