Different tubes in a poweramp; results?

Post by Bernardduur »

Hey all!

I have this 8x EL34 amp that I use to fill with 6L6 tubes as they just sound great on bass! But now I had that idea to mix different output tubes (as they are biased per 4 tubes.

Can I use 2 different sort of tubes in an amp? And how will it sound? For example, if I use 4x 6L6 and 4x EL34

Thanks!

Mesa Boogie did just that mixed tube types.

You could go the Egnator way with two EL84 and two 6V6 with mix control a four ganged pot to blend them together or separate.
