It is sad to say, but some of these basket cases are more profitable as parts than as completed amps.

On the last one I did, I came out ahead on materials, but lost big once you factor in labor, but I can't complain much. I learned a lot and it is a great feeling of accomplishment to restore one of these beauties back to it's former glory.

I think that in most cases restoration is never good deal from economical point of view, but it might be a great fun (little dangerous thought) and you will learn something. And at the end, there will be a great feeling that you got something that is someway indywidual, made by your hands. :)

good news angela music sells a brand correct reverb tank (not vintage model correct) it works well and sounds good. the reverb tranformers are pretty cheap as an after market piece. there is a guy on craigslist selling orignial reverb transforemers i'll see if i can track down the posting.

Beginning to source parts choke, reverb tank caps etc. Question, in redoing the circuit board would combining 715P and PS caps on board be of any advantage and/or difference. I have spares in various values I'd like to use up. I would like to redo circuit to stay as clean, tight, focused short of adding more iron ala bassman. But still may be option.

Is that the Fender head shell that they just stripped the tolex off?

When I first glanced at it I thought you had a Boogie, that basket weave.

I haven't ever found anything like that but the pictures you show give me the willies, looks like a real fire trap.
A lot of times guys know just enough to be dangerous and don't practice safe construction techniques that could result in tragedy if it started a fire in a home.

Good luck with your project.

This thing is a mega modded Vibrolux Reverb and as some have suggested,it will be stripped to chassis and trannies. Cab lookes to be homemade 1/2" ply w/faux Boogie cane grill. To be replaced with a combo new/used Vibrolux Reverb cab. You're right there are questionable routing of some high voltage. High voltage under relay  Will be receiving some components today, will start on stripping chassis and wuold like thoughts on power filtering. 16 to 20 uf x 5 or 20uf x5 w/ 40uf x2 ?Thanks

I need advice on speakers. this amp is being stripped and restored. I am sourcing speakers and other parts now. Old JBL D110F's are steep. Any recommendations ?

I have the gold-back Jensens in mine and they sound great to me for blues and classic rock and the reproductions are fairly inexpensive. Just the right balance of cleans with some dirt when you push them. The twin I restored had JBLs and I wasn't crazy about them because they were way too clean for me and the amp was unbelievably heavy. If you want to play rockabilly, surf, classic country or jazz, you may lean more toward the JBLs.

I put Weber 10A150 and 10F150 in the BF Vibrolux I built, it sounds really superb.
