S5 Electronics K12M Kit (Tube Stereo)

Post by mumford »

I'm looking for something to house a K12M stereo in. I think I want something that's about 12" x 10" x 3", preferably aluminum.

An ideas where I can get something like this without having one custom built?

I ended up getting an aluminum chassis that was 12x8x3, worked perfectly.

I don't know if anyone has doen one of these amp kits before, but they are a lot of fun. The first time I built it, I used all stock parts and a wooden box. It sounded good, but some traces lifted in doing mods, and it got overly noisy. I got a new board and rebuilt it from the ground up. I added snubbers, dayton caps, bigger & higher quality PS caps, a 3 prong plug, and the chassis. Finished it the other day. It's been long enough since I started that I'm not sure if the sound is different, but it sounds great, and shockingly has NO noise at any volume. Sweet.
