treble and bass control pot values

Post by jbrew73 »

i've been thinking about converting my marshall homebuild into a train wreck. looking at the various schematics there are variations in pot values and taper. what seems to work best? not to worried about being an exact clone just getting the job done.

any opinions on running 500v b+ using my current PT or should i change it out for a lower voltage one?

Try this one:

Some folks like one or the other for volume (Lin vs Audio).

Definitely too hot. It seems that the magic b+ is about 400v. Hotter than that and you'll have the output tubes and the preamp tube hitting slightly different operating points... May still sound good, but might be missing the intended spot. Ken was very familiar with Marshalls and serviced and hot rodded quite a few - one has to guess his choice of a lower voltage than what either Marshall or Fender was running was a conscious decision.

My two cents, anyhoo...

the schematic referenced above shows 1M for treb and bass and 1MA for volume.

i'm assuming the 1M's are linear taper.

the ceriatone layout shows audio taper for bass and treble.

which one is correct?
