Please check this over carefully. It reflects a variety of current thinking. Thanks Dogears.

Hi,

Nice looking drawing!

Is the 4.7 M resistor at the phase inverter input something that more people use?

What is it for?

Thanks,
Jelle

Looks good! I intend to try the 270pf snubbers on V2 and the bright cap on the master volume as well.

One thing I did note was that the 0.002 treble cap was on the board in the pics Ayan so genereously posted.

Does Scott still recommend the 2k7 cathode resistor on V2a? I noticed you had 3.3k listed on your layout.

Hi Dan,

The Ayan amp had a .002 midboost cap and a 390pf (for 330pf) or 330pf (for 280pf) when not in boost mode.

What is that bright cap on the master? 5.6pf? Try 10pf or even 15pf.

Let us know how she turns out!

Looks good. The 4M7 isn't needed. I used it on one of my early layouts to reduce some switching noise, but the way you have your relays set up it won't be needed. Also, the 100k feeding the PI is optional. If you had reverb it would be necessary as part of the reverb mix circuit. Probably no harm in leaving it in. I seem to recall that it helps boost the bass at low volume...kinda like the old loudness switches, but it's not in the original circuit.

On your OD1 input network, I think Dogears told me a while ago that if you run a cap in series with the resistor you need to put a 4M7 to ground to prevent popping when switching to OD. I don't think it mattered which side of the cap it was on.

Lastly, the board can be quite a bit narrower. On the original layoutI left it wide because I intended to put relays on the board. Since then, I've gone the Dumble route and built seperate relay boards.

Thanks Dogears and Keithrick:

V2a K resistor noted and changed. 15 puff cap on master. The mid boost cap was just plain miswired. I think it's fine now. It should indicate 390pF without the boost engaged.

Also, I had the two resistors just south of the OD plate blocking caps (drive and level) reversed.

The worst of it is that (dang, dang, dang) I saved the drawing 1024X768 in one momentary fit of insanity and now it's illegible in spots.

I'm sure once this amp is completly wired I'll be 90% done with only 90% left to complete!

Oh, Jelle, I don't know for sure. The Rev A scheme shows a 4M7 attached to the junction of the treble cap and the mid boost switch. I've never seen any layout with that one installed. The scheme also doesn't show a 4M7 at the input to the PI but it's on a couple of layouts. I'm not sure how much good it does, but I'm sure it doesn't do much harm. :D

I may well put a switch in to short out all that Power Amp in/Pre Amp out stuff.

Thanks again
Dan

Hi Normster, I was hoping you'ld chime in. I'll put those ideas onboard tomorrow. I've fried my eyes. My board is from turretboards.com; a standard one. Turns out I think to be a mistake because I can see a couple of spots I'd like an eyelet out in left field somewhere. It's way too long anyway so I'll be sawing it down a bit. My intention was to experiment with the 100k PI feed and deep six it if it didn't work for me.

I'm still thinking about adding the treble bleed pot (not wired but there) but I need to scout out the thread.

Thanks for the template!

You should have no more than 330pf with the midboost off. That is both caps in series. You may want to try the 330pf in series for something closer to 270pf net.

The OD1 is 2.74k and not 3.3k

Don't use the 100k after the MV.......

Good luck!

Right! It's still wired wrong. Thanks!

I'm questioning your OD1 and OD2 coupling caps. I use .022uF and .0056uF for these. I think you'll end up with too much bottom end and muddy tone with the .01uF's in these positions. The OD1 .01uF might be ok, but the OD2 .01uF will be a problem, .005uF is the standard, I like .0056uF and Norm uses .0047uF.

Also, don't take the relay terminals literally, NC - C - NO. Often relays have different pin outs, C - NC - NO. Refer to the spec sheet for your relays.

OK.

Boy I'll tell you one thing, I'm about drawed out. I downloaded Visio and tried to edit this Jpeg with it. When I saved the drawing, all of the changes ended up in a pile on the bottom of the screen, but the drawing disappeared!

I think I need some tips Norm. I hate the way Paint dithers all the text when you save. It washes out.

Anyway, take another quick glance if you will my friends, and I'll start stuffing board.

Dan,

I'd strongly suggest .01uf on OD1 and .005 on OD2. PS series OD caps. That is what was in the real deals..... I have never seen the .022 and I don't personally like the sound as opposed to the .01 Don't reinvent the wheel till you baseline.... Also, are your OD plates backwards? Kind of looked like 180k was on OD2....

Bob-I, I thought you took my advice and lowered OD1 and said it was better now that you went to 10uf on CL2??

I'll put it back your way. I'll fix the OD plate resistors too.
