Tommy,
Yes, I buy transformers tubes and e-caps from a Dutch company, most resistors and caps at the local radio shack. I cannot buy Vishay/Dale rn65 resistors here...
Currently I'm using 0.6w smallish metal film resistors and they hold up but I prefer to use the rn65.

One mother, just out of the hospital - time to pay back Mom for all that good mother stuff she did for me.
I've built an 18 watt, an AC15, a push-pull 12AU7 practice amp, and I just finished a 2x5V6GT 2 channel push pull amp. Finished, but not really finished - it's still noisy in one channel.
I put TWreck guts in a Bassman head, but there's something seriously wrong in there somewhere - I'll get back to it eventually.
About those aluminum tubes.....

Wife, 2 kids, no pets
Built lots of pedals and 5 amps. 5e3 (hums a bit), 5f2a (sold - I didn't like it), AX84 P1 (which has been converted to a Dr. Z Mini, Matchless Spitfire (love this one), and a TrainWreck Express. I'm no engineer, but I seem to be able to follow a diagram (to a point).
I play classic rock and modern hard rock (and blues - doesn't everybody play the blues?).

Political correctness? Overly sensitive dopes? Oh well, I have no time for people like that. At least you have a sense of humor and with your sig keep rubbing it in their faces. I'd probably have been less kind

Hobbies include playing in a cover band, fishing, and a serious amateur cook.
Modded/fixed many of my friends amps to date (mostly Marshalls). I built a HRM clone three or four years ago, back before there was much, if any, online support like this wonderful forum. I learned a lot from this build, especialy giving yourself plenty of chassis space. It sounded rather good, but in my tweeking and constant modifications I was soldering more than playing guitar, so I ended up scrapping it for parts. Currently ordering parts to build another, which will be planned and laid out better. As a previous poster stated, I'm much more of a reader than writer, given the cumulative wisdom and excellent advice posted on this forum.

Re: Who are we? Let's get to know each other!
Yeah, I know whatcha mean about gettin your share of the ribs! Both of my kids are fairly picky eaters, but when the ribs get served, they turn into ravenous carnivores!
As for sauce, I went thru many attempts at creating my own sauce. Some were OK, some were downright awful. The one based on Dr. Pepper was not too bad, but not a universal favorite. I also tried lots of commercial sauces, but none was quite right. Then I hit upon a combination that made people downright silly: Stubbs Original cut with a liberal dose of orange blossom honey.
In many rib circles I would be stoned for blasphemy because I don't spend hours smoking my ribs. Instead, I use a modified Alton Brown approach. First I rub 'em down and let 'em meditate overnight in the fridge. Then they go, wrapped tightly in foil after receiving a layer of sauce, into the oven for 2.5 hours at 250 degrees. Near the end I get the grill ready and the wood smoking. I take the ribs out of the oven (being careful to preserve all the juice) and put them on the grill to get a combination of wood smoke and the smoke from pouring the juice on the hot stones little by little. The final treatment is a layer of sauce that's allowed to set up on the ribs. Then I serve 'em up and watch the faces get messy!

Re: Who are we? Let's get to know each other!
Kevin Winter I just had my 40th B day, I guess I can,t be a kid anymore.
I will be married 21 years next week with one son 17. I have been in the music biz over 25 years, repairing, building and selling guitars. Spending time at home now due to a chronic illness (Crohns Disease) I have built all kinds of guitars, solid body's to a carved archtop. I am a tone junky and now want to learn more about amps , an equal contributor to tone that I see gets overlooked all the time. I gig every now and then depending on how I am feeling and will play most anything.
