Cost for parts to build Rocket?
Hi, I am new to the forum. I have been building pedals for some of the locals here, and have been educating myself on amp construction.
I always liked the sound and wanted to build a Vox AC30. I was initially considering the Weber kit.
Now that I have stumbled onto this site and have been hearing samples and reading about the Rocket, I think that makes more sense to me.
My question is, about how much does it cost to build one, with good components and start up tubes?
thanks in advance,
Scott

Parts cost is around $550 for top quality stuff. My question is, about how much does it cost to build one, with good components and start up tubes?
Iron $180 - $200 (PT + OT + CHK)
Chassis, faceplate & boards $120 - $160
Components & tubes $180 - $200
BOM and other important stuff: https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=5684
Regulars such as RJ or Allyn can supply most or all of the required parts, including a ready to use chassis and high quality boards.
Re: Cost for parts to build Rocket?
Heyboer just quoted me $235.00 for the rocket PT and OT set. Ouch.

Re: Cost for parts to build Rocket?
RJ sells the HTS-5199 PT for $95 and the HTS-8093-1 OT for $96, that's $191 for the set.
Re: Cost for parts to build Rocket?
OK thanks for the help!
Re: Cost for parts to build Rocket?
I'm gettin' with RJ as soon as he gets back from his trip.
I get the feeling that heyboer doesn't like to do retail...

Yeah that's really the at the bottom of it. Usually if they know that somebody has it available they will steer the traffic that way so they don't end up doing a one-off of a common tranny.KellyBass wrote:... I get the feeling that heyboer doesn't like to do retail...
I'm selling their iron at cost and that allows us all to get the quantity discount. I can only say decent things about Heyboer and when it comes to winding a one-off of an unusual design they tend to come through.
Looking forward to getting back to the amp shop next week!

Re: Cost for parts to build Rocket?
how much more would it cost to turn a standard rocket build into a trem-rocket?
Re: Cost for parts to build Rocket?
A retrofit could be a messy proposition; a new build would add $30 to $40 to the cost - a few passive components, a roach, two more knobs...
Re: Cost for parts to build Rocket?
Or skip the roach and just use the extra 12AX7 half as a bias oscillator, ala the Matchless Hurricane and Tornado. Those two are basically the same amp, mildly different values in the oscillator circuit. Very similar amp topology, so it should bolt in with just a few tweaks.FYL wrote:A retrofit could be a messy proposition; a new build would add $30 to $40 to the cost - a few passive components, a roach, two more knobs...
Did the real Trem Rockets use the roach? I don't get why people go that way -- never met a roach trem circuit I thought was fantastic.

Yup.Or skip the roach and just use the extra 12AX7 half as a bias oscillator
There's one in the few board pix I've seen. Dunno if the original "Wiggle Woman" or "Peach" used one.Did the real Trem Rockets use the roach?
Ditto here. Direct bias modulation rulez.never met a roach trem circuit I thought was fantastic.
