First clip of a production Glaswerks!! Whatcha think?

Post by dogears »

Taken from www.thegearpage.net, posted by "fig" I'll add the clip was recorded with an audio taper master set on 2 out of 12!!! That is REALLY LOW bedroom levels.... Pretty awesome considering! Player is fig (Greg Williams).

"Recorded this morning . . . Glaswerks 50 watt head . . with Red, White, Blues speakers.
80's voice.
Horrible playing . . . . . .

www.gwillmusic.com/media/talkdaughter.mp3 "

Here is another one from fig using the HRM 90s voice.

Thanks to Greg Williams for the clips!! Not bad for low volume first efforts!

Sounds great. I gotta get me one of those Red White and Blues

BTW, if that playing sucks, I gotta go practice.

Oh, I forgot.... I love those threads on other amp forums about matching the power of the amp to the gig. "If I get an 18 watt amp instead of my 25 watt amp the club owner won't complain...." Just get one of these... they sound great at any level. :!:

Yup, Greg's got some nice licks for sure. That amp sounds awesome! I guess I've got to make time to get over there and hear it first hand...at very low volume of course.

I'm going to try some video clips here tonight.

The amp is a real chameleon .... so many tonal variations.

People on the Gear Page have been clamoring for some clean tone clips, I'm getting some killer SRV type tones with thundering low end and snappy top end. I've never really cared much for buckers on a clean channel, but they go really well with this amp ...

Glaswerks Live !!

Post by Wasserockinbluesman »

I hooked up with Scott on Sunday and got to hear the Glaswerks first hand .... am I dating myself if I say .. It Freakin Rocks !!!

The clean is sweet with rich harmonic tones and the overdrive is smooth, thick and totally articulate. The amp does exactly what you want it to do and delivers.

Scott has also done some great work tweaking his other amps but the Glaswerks just has more options and was easier to manage and get a good balance of clean/dirty.

As for Scott's playing, if I had 6 or 7 fingers on each hand, I might only get close ....

Thanks Scott and kudo's to Gary.

Hey Glenn!

Nice meeting you! You play great!

Btw, after you left, I did tweak up the mids and highs a hair as I said I would. I do believe it made a small positive improvement. I also put back in my Tung Sol 12AX7 in V2. I had put a used American 7025 in there a day earlier. The Tung Sol is thicker and a little gainier.

Same amp, just a little more optimized imo.

When we jamming again?? I enjoyed that!!!

I have Scumback speakers arriving this week. Word of mouth says these are the shiit! Can't wait to put them in my 2X12 and and compare the 8 ohmer in my 1X12 to the RWB.

Playing and Amps

Scott .... more tweaking?? lol .... you are amazing, lol

Thanks for the kind words, it was great playing with you too, you are a monstor and you inspire me!!

I'll plan to get back once this Umble build is complete, I know you will want to tweak it .. *wink*. By then, I'll make sure I work a little on some tunes so we have some new things to play.

Let me know how the Scumback's work out .... I was about to pull the trigger on some Tone Tubbies, maybe we can do a shoot-out and compare?

Also, I need that Umbleator circuit schematic so I can get it into the build. The schematic that Bob sent me with reverb shows only half the 12AX7 being used which is a bit weird for the reverb driver. I'll talk to you more about it soon.

Thanks again and I really can't thank you enough for your time and input.

What type of flowers does your wife like?? :)

I'm finding that there's so many switches, I'm having to really dig to find the right combinations.

For example, I got great cleans the first day, but since haven't been able to recapture that original tone. I tried every combination of switches. Finally I got out the manual and realized I overlooked the Fast/Slow switch. That was it.

On the OD side, I find I like 80s mode quite a bit, but there's just too much gain to make it smooth enough. Part of the reason is that I like the clean gain pretty high (7-8 ), and it overloads the OD side. If I leave the clean gain as is, I have to bring the OD side gain down to about 2-3 for it to smooth out. Not a big deal, but I'd like more usable gain range. So I may adjust the trimmers and lower the OD gain. (I can't recall if there are separate trims for 90s and 80s gain??? I hope so, but kinda doubt it).

I like the 90s mode, not quite as muddy as 80s mode. It has less gain, which leads to the clarity. Not as saturated. It's alot more 'in your face' than 80s mode.

One thing I can't get over his how well doublestops ring out, with no hashing. Usually with this much gain, everything mushes together, but not with this amp.

My next two projects are messing with the trimmers a bit and some tube swapping.

Mikey,

There are totally independent trimmers and OD netwroks for 80s or 90s mode. Give me a shout and I can give you some ideas on how to clean up the 80s voice.

I re-read my post, and realized it sounds somewhat negative. That was not my intention. The point I was trying to convey is just that the 80s mode is more saturated than 90s. 90s mode is what I consider ultra-articulate, and 80s a little less so.....

From reading most of the current owner's comments, I think each one prefers one mode over another. Makes sense.

The clips were really well done, you can hear the differences clearly in those clips.

Here is a pdf of a setting sheet for the Glaswerks amp I threw together. Feel free to down load it and print it up for your records. It would also be nice to have this to share settings. I would love to know the settings for those clips as they all sounded great.
