questions for 75/150 and which speakers..

Post by toneslinger »

I am about to take hold of a 75/150 amp with verb.
I have several cabs to choose from from 4 10 8 10
4 12 and 2 15 cabs.
25,30,80 watt celestions
ev 12l and
tone tubby bmb setup ceramic and alnico..

What would be the better choices here to use with this amp
and which to avoid due to overkill on power...?

I am buying this amp to keep up with 3 plexi 100s.
one 100 watt twin and some Holmes 100s.

Also to have that D sound to go with F, H and M style
amps.

This is for home studio mainly.

I just dont want to blow anything and figured I would ask..
I wont be running these amps over 4 or 6 anyway

But with 150 id imagine it can just powder some speakers.

Thoughts on which to go with and which to just avoid.

I love my 4 10 cabs they sound great
Do not want them to blow.

I guess I can use a direct box out of ext speaker as well
speaker load , and get line level perhaps that might be safer
considering the 720 vlts.

Thoughts ?

Self conclusion :

"Try all at low volumes and dont be shy with the NFB knob"
direct boxes cant hurt speakers.
so make use of that external speaker jack.

The 10s and 15s together will make you dislike 12s.
tried them with stereo heads and i actually felt
that 12s were over rated after hearing the combination of
10s and 15s.

Shad is building it or actually has built it already.

It will have built in reverb I guess its considered
an SDO but with MM transformers and KT88s.
Also getting efx loop box..

Hoping the 75/ 150 watts will allow me to
use it at home small club or even larger places
perhaps out door gigs which I live on 100 acres
so that will happen this year.

I liked the clips ive heard of shads amps so I went with
Quinn im hoping it will reach the SSS type clean sounds
and give me the ods lead too.

I Have a kasha 150 stereo power amp loaded with
6550 nos ge tubes which really sounds great.

I might have shad make me a preamp to drive that
and voice it moreso along the SSS lines.

Then have both kt88 and 6550s.

The great thing about shads amps is you can run them as
preamps and go direct to computer.

So for another 1000 id have two D style preamps I could
run for late night recording...

He is putting final touches on it..
726 volts right now..

I think I will dig the extra juice it has and it should sound great
paired with plexis...

I am looking forward to pairing those up.

They will do some clips of the amp before its sent

I will post links to that once they are up and
the amp is shipped.

I stumbled into a build spot on this last november
and its now built and being burned in and tested
and some clips are being made.

More to come...

This one has black suede and diamond cloth.
L@@king forward to playing it.
