Hmmmm... lacking lows and yet they show up in a bass cab...

Whattaya think, maybe there's something more to the picture?

2x10 have more area than 1x12 so you can have faster response and yet push more air. Seems like with judicious tuning, you should have it all over 1x12. ;)

What's in your friend's 2x10 cab?
Well, the bass cab is all about pushing air, porting, closed back, and punch. That cab is about as big as a 4x12 half stack.

My friends little combo cab has two weber 10's....dont' know the model number.

So, I guess I'll agree that 10's could work in a guitar rig, if the cab is closed, ported, etc...

I've played a Eden Redhead 2x10 bass combo amp that kills with great bass tone. I just think Bass and Electric Guitar are apples and oranges in their speaker applications. Funny thing is, is that I prefer a 4x10 bass cab over a 1x15 bass cab. Had them both for years. I guess you can tell that I'm actually a Bass player who tinkers around with Guitar.

You don't need to go that extreme - that's why I mentioned mixing speakers in the 2x10 configuration. If you get a chance, see just which Webers are in your friends cabinet. "Lack of bass" could be in the circuit too. ;)

Your secret is safe with me. One of my best friends is a bass builder who doesn't play bass.

Hey Ron,

The AXA comes in a 10" as well. Basically the same speaker as the 12" but in a 10" package.

I like 210 setups too, it just depends on what your application is with it. Amps that can be farty, like a 5E3, mate well with a 210 setup.

No way, I'm not going there. Keep your 10''s. I will NOT take the red pill!

Yet the Fane AXA doesn't sound dark and dull at all to me. There's plenty of sparkle action going on. Who knows, maybe I don't like bright amps. :-) Perhaps Fishy here from the forum could chime in. He heard, in person, my recent build with the Fane AXA. To me that speaker makes things big and full without overriding the upper freqs at all.
Ron,
It was great to hear the amp. I thought it sounded full, even on lower volumes. Certainly not bright, plenty of life/ sparkle. The reverb works like a charm to boot.
I am interested to hear the Fane more. If that was anything to go by, its a great speaker in the right setup.

I currently have it pulled apart to tweak with some PI values, TSB, and awaiting the faceplates. So, no I don't have a concise pic. sorry about that. Should by the end of the week though.

Thanks Darin, I'm liking it pretty well. Enough to build another one for myself and sell my beloved Two Rock Type 3.

At a boy!!!

You could finance an amp start-up by selling the TR

I am nervous about it though. It's such a comfort amp for me. When I forget what good tone is, I switch that baby on for a bit, and then I'm all better. ;)

Got the faceplate in today. A little hard to get a good pic of the faceplate. But here's what I got right now.
