Hi Rawnster,Normster wrote:Hmmm...maybe I've been looking at the wrong speakers.rawnster wrote:Unless you're talking about the Heritage series...I tried the G12H30s at Loren's house and just assumed they were Heritage series. I'll give him a call and confirm which ones they are.
The speaker I'm using on the Rocket Reverb Norm built for me, is a Hellatone (from Avatar), which is a G12H30 when I peeled off the Hellatone label. It's rear-mounted in a 1x12, half-open back cab that I build. It's not a Heritage.
Hope this helps.

Hey Loren, that's good to know. I've got two nicely broken in G12H30s. Certainly give them a try.adlibmusic wrote:Hi Rawnster,Normster wrote:Hmmm...maybe I've been looking at the wrong speakers.rawnster wrote:Unless you're talking about the Heritage series...I tried the G12H30s at Loren's house and just assumed they were Heritage series. Re: Rocket Combo Takes Off
I should mention that we tried the following speakers with the Rocket Reverb:
EVM12L - the real deal
G12-65
G12H30
Vintage 30
Red,White, and Blues
Tonespotter
Hands down, the G12h30 really brought the best out of the amp. I played it at church (w/tele) for it's first time out and it was spectacular. I used Geek's BBB when I wanted a little more drive and it was all that.
Thanks again Normster!!!

Re: Rocket Combo Takes Off
Normster IS the man, for sure.
Much thanks to his reverb trickery.
So the G12H30 wasn't too scooped in the mids and a touch harsh in the upper mids/low hi's? I really like that speaker too, but it seems that after a while I start getting some ear fatigue with it. Maybe I should just turn it down.
Gosh, my favorite so far with Rocket circuits has been a greenback of type. Mine in particular are Scumback M-75's in a closed back cab.
I know somebody stop me!!! I made another clip last night. This freaking amp dished out some delish crunchy rhythms. Since I'm not a gun slinging guitarist, who totes around a bag of robin F/Larry C. lead Politician riffs, I've got to do it with smoke and mirrors....i.e., multi-tracking, correct miking, great tone, and a fun tune. Anyway.....take a listen to "multi-track-teles" to get another Idea in what the rocket can put out. Versatile amp indeed.

Re: Rocket Combo Takes Off
I have one open back DrZ 212 cab loaded with G12H30/25wgreenback for Liverpool/Express/Bassman/others.
Openback Gabkit 212 Cab with vin 30s for Express use/Komet 60.
Openback DrZ 212 cab with celestion blues for Stangray and Rocket use.
I have to say I really like the G12H30 for many of my amps.

As always the playing is fantastic and the tone is sweet.
Okay, okay ... it sounds cool, but does it look cool?

Interesting experience with speaker options: As I’ve mentioned before, this build is going into a 1x12 combo cab. The cab has been on order, along with the Fane AXA 12” alnico speaker, for a while now. Well, not being the most patient person, I’ve been plugging the amp into my 2x12 closed cab loaded with M-75 65watt scumbacks. TERRIFIC sounding cab. It makes this build big and beefy with chime and balls. I’m thinking, dude this build sounds really really good. Made some clips of it to prove it.
Well the cabinet came in a couple of days ago, but not the Fane speaker. So, I thought I’d go ahead and install the chassis into the cab, and pull one of my celestion G12H30’s from my Two Rock cab, and give the amp a listen in its new home. TERRIBLE sounding. EEK. It sounded boxy, small, and shrill. Where did the beef and TONE go? I’m constantly tweaking the tone knobs. Needless to say, I’m getting depressed about it, and thinking that KF is right about not putting these builds in combo cabs. My thoughts went to “ok what can I modify in the circuit to get the full tone back.” In the meantime, the Fane speaker finally arrived FedEx yesterday. So, I’m installing the speaker, but with little hope that this change will do much of anything; after all, it’s still in a smaller 1x12 combo cab. I fired up the amp, and WOW….I couldn’t have been more wrong. The balls, warmth, chime is back in spades! I’m serious. This alnico is NOT like what you’d think in a celestion alnico. The sonic footprint is back and it’s huge. I tried not looking at the cab while playing; and doing so really made it feel bigger than a 1x12 cab. Its beefy tone made that little cab sit up and be noticed. It really is one of the perfect speaker selections for a rocket-type circuit. Hey, the Scumback is no slouch at all, and it sits firmly under my “traditional” rocket build. But, this new amp has found a buddy for life…the Fane AXA 12” Alnico.
Thanks Darin!

You are very welcome Ron.
Now imagine those speakers in your 212 closed back cab
Clips would be cool if you have time.

I here ya! That setup might make me weak-kneed.dartanion wrote:You are very welcome Ron.

I'm thinking about a open-back option with those speakers. A vox on steriods, and with some serious low hanging balls!
I had no idea. Great speaker. Best kept secret I've found in a long time.
Re: Rocket Combo Takes Off
The wife is gone all day tomorrow doing her bizarre Christmas sale thing. So, that leaves me home alone with protools. I'll try to make some clips.dartanion wrote:Clips would be cool if you have time.

Hey Loren,
I think Moss has an AXA 12 if you want to check it out. He also has a Studio 12L or 2 laying around unused.
Feel free to call me anytime you like.
