Re: Some hints about Dumble now
Hi Max,
I actually saw SRV using an ODS on stage in 82 or 83, so he was at least trying it for a while .It was at the IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) in Berlin, so I suspect that footage of this exists

Yes, as far as I remember now he used one for a short time in 83 after recording Texas Flood with Browne's Dumbleland and before he got the SSS he had ordered from Dumble. But obviously he did not like it that much.marcos wrote:Hi Max,

Re: Some hints about Dumble now
Still there are some nice live recordings where he was using that effect on stage. And yes, the amp wants to take off.

Re: Some hints about Dumble now
what a great video!!!. Is he using the ODS here? It sounds more like a Fender to me?

there's a part 2 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpHzyz_Y ... re=channel
SRV had great tones!!!, but IMO his tone is not that Dumble'ish. He used his amps pretty clean and as you can see on the videos, he used a tube screamer for OD tone.

Re: Some hints about Dumble now
Agreed, the tone is not real dumblish, but in that second vid you can see the SSS head plain as day (Note: at 4:20 into the second vid there's a nice clear shot).

Re: Some hints about Dumble now
in the second video the sound is less like a super reverb. he fiddling with the controls of the Dumble. I guess it's a good video to hear the difference between the Fender amp and the Dumble
I feel the Dumble sounds less "woody"? is that a good discription?

Re: Some hints about Dumble now
That could be a Vibroverb not a Super... 15" speaker??? I does not looked mic'd up though.
It's a You tube clip transferred from video by the sound of it, hard to tell anything at that quality only it's SVR playing his ass off.

Yeah of course you're probably right.nickm57 wrote:That could be a Vibroverb not a Super... 15" speaker???
Re: Some hints about Dumble now
His fenders were mic'd from the back sometimes. Or maybe they were loud enough.
Re: Some hints about Dumble now
At 4:20 you don't see a SSS but an early eighties "blackface" ODS on top of his Dumble 4x12. His first SSS was a "silverface" one btw.benoit wrote:Agreed, the tone is not real dumblish, but in that second vid you can see the SSS head plain as day (Note: at 4:20 into the second vid there's a nice clear shot).
Tommy Shannon plays a Dumbleland 300SL for bass (on top of his Dumble bass cabinet).

Re: Some hints about Dumble now
If "dumblish" means for you = LC/RF OD sounds you are right. But others (like me) may think of a Dumbleland or SSS as being very "dumblish".benoit wrote:Agreed, the tone is not real dumblish
