Tom,
Thanks for stopping over.
You are very welcome.
After so many years .....38..... it is gratifying to to hear thank yous being given.
I received my first spoken "thank you for your service" 6/5/09 at my Orthopedic doctors office. I had my USMC veteran hat on (not thinking about it). I was taken aback by the words from gentleman (I think a Dr.) on the other side of the receptionist's office. I didn't realize what he said for a second. Then I was tongue tied and didn't know what to say but I finally got out a you're welcome.
The really strange thing is that I have received several more since then. I think the country is coming to appreciate what our service people are sacrificing for us more these days.
It was bad back in the day. When we came home from Nam we had to wear civilian clothes as the servicemen were being spit on in the airports.
When the wife and I went on our vacation we had some time to kill between flights so we went into the bar at the airport for a beer and hot dog. There were several young servicemen at the next table various distances from home. Remembering what it was like I bought them their drinks and we all had a nice visit we thanked them and all went on our way.
................I have a bunch of pictures in albums and slides from the days in the Corps but I haven't scanned them to the computer yet.....hmmm 40 years since I went in, maybe I should get to it.
Really I have been thinking about it lately as I want to get more than just the 2 or 3 up there. Just every time I get ready a print/scanner goes to hell and I have to learn how to use a different one.
Gotta run. These all nighters are hard on us old people. I have to get up to the hospital and pick up mother and take her to the nursing home tomorrow...this morning.
If I get some more service pics on there I'll give this a bump.
Later and thanks again.
Gary
In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird , and they take Prozac to make it normal.
