FUZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz

Post by Structo »

Hey guys, I thought I would post a review of a cheap new pedal I got.

It's the Biyang Fuzz Fz-7

[img:500:375]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/416%2B1pI1sBL.jpg[/img]

I have tried different fuzz pedals over the years and even own a Analogman Sunface NK175 and several other Germanium fuzzes.

Also a few silicon fuzzes.

Now at this time I am not sure if the Fz-7 is transistor or opamp based, I have yet to open it up.
This pedal is in their Tonefancier Series and is larger than the typical pedal.

But this thing has a tremendous amount of gain.
All the controls do a lot to change the effect.

I was very impressed when I tried it for the first time yesterday plugged into my 100w ODS.

All three switch settings sound different and along with the tone control you can achieve just about any type of fuzz sound you want.
The Muff setting is reminiscent of the old EH Muff pedal.
It is very versatile.
Nails the 'Communication Breakdown' tone.
$55

Here is a clip, but he doesn't use all the switch settings.

They have a newer series called the Baby Boom Series that is in a smaller conventional enclosure.
I wish I had seen this one before ordering the larger pedal.
I think it is the same circuit but not positive.

Called the F7-10 Fuzz Star.
$50

They also have a tubescreamer clone, the Biyang OD-8 "Changeable Chip Set" Overdrive.
It has a socketed opamp on the back that can be changed by the user.
So you can try all your favorite chips in this one.

Go here to see them.

Now I realize this is a made in China product and may not be for everybody but just thought I would pass along a reasonably priced pedal or two for those that don't want to spend big bucks.

Hey Tom - we seem to have the same tastes in effects.
First the TC G Sharp. Now this.
I got mine quite a while ago.
Great for the price.
Don't play much these days so the pedal board doesn't get much use at all.
Still, it is a versatile pedal for the money.

I love the product description on Amazon. You can tell it was directly translated from Chinese:

Hey Bob, yeah I'm digging this pedal.

I have spent hundreds on other Fuzz pedals and if I had to pick two to keep it would be my Sunface and this pedal.

Most Fuzz pedals are kind of a one trick pony.
This pedal allows many more options.

Its a Muff clone, all transistor gain stages, with a variant of the early R.G. Keen/Geofex Millenium true bypass circuit. The mode switch switches the diode clippers on one of the two muff clipping stages -- I believe they are classic, extra or assymetric diodes, and no diodes. I've got the Akai rebadging. (Never pay the $180 dealer price for the Akai. Akai sells them for $40 direct. I got a dealer to price match down to $8.) In classic mode it sounds pretty much like the old late 70s red and black NY muff I used to have did, good and bad.

Some of it is SMD, some through-hole, so it's hard to say whether they targeted a specific schematic, like a triangle or ram's head, but whatever. It sounds like a Muff and most Muffs sound more alike than not.

Thanks for the info Bear.
$8 for a fuzz pedal is a darn good deal. :D

Wow you are right Bear!

$182 for a Akai relabeled Biyang Fuzz!

Reminds me of the Freakish Blues Alpha Drive.

Thanks Ken!

F7 - winner

Post by angelodp »

Just received the F7 and its the most interesting of the lot. Taste will vary but for me I can see why Tom really like this pedal. Its more transparent and the knobs and switch allow a much broader range of settings. Its a good unit to put into the ej tone quest. Something I will never achieve, without his hands and brain. But for now I can hear more of that sparkle that I was looking for without the wet blanket woolly thing. BTW I have a Hx and DA tytpe fuzz here to cross reference.

Thumbs up for me on this very affordable pedal.

Thanks Tom
