Rocket with TS exp tranny or Dynaclone ?

Post by chopstuck »

I have built my Rocket with the excellent TS set including the experimenters dual primary OT with 4.3k and 5.2k primaries. (Go Moose!) I have them on a DPDT switch and both have their strong points. The 4.3 seems more linear and the 5.2 has a pronounced mid hump that sounds pretty good when overdriving. Oversimplification alert: I suppose I like the 4.3 more for clean and the 5.2 for grit.

The question is ....would the Heyboer Dyna A470 clone be worth the effort over the lower impedence experimenter's winding ? Is it different enough ? It seems it is a more laborious tranny to wind, with reverse windings. Has anyone heard both ?
Heavens, an unused PI input !

Rocket with TS exp tranny or Dynaclone ?

I'm sorry I don't have a answer for you chopstuck. I'm in somewhat of the same boat. I have a Vox AC30CC that I'm considering swapping out the O/T. Both of the units you mentioned are considerations, along with "regular" Vox trannies from Heyboer and Mercury. I hope someone out there has some info on this!

Chopstuck,

I only have one at this time with Edcor PT and A-470-S OT in which I really enjoy this amp.

On the bench right now is my new Rocket build using 6L6 and waiting for a Pacific tranny set.
