When do you set it down and call it a day?
I just burned the shit out of my thumb with a 700 ( sorry not watts , Degree) soldering iron and fuse terminal. It was my bad, I was just in a hurry and didn't give the terminal a moment to cool and kept going. While trying to work a wire in a tight spot and heat it in to place I bumped the terminal.. ouched.. slipped and ran my thumb into the iron.. So i'm calling it a day. Put the iron back in the craddle and said a few words that warranted ear muffs. I'll try again tomorrow after some sleep, this is why you don't run yourself ragged and try to do fine motor skills.

thats a good one..... hope all is well. The last time I muckled on to an iron
I was left with a HUGE blister. Usually, when one feels that one is his own
worst enemy, one should celebrate the moment with a lot of beer.

Don't know what drhulsey may have on this one and I'm not a Doc. but.........When it's my turn to cook and my fat gut gets in the way of splattering grease and I get burned I go for the ice cube maker and slap the ice to it. Haven't been blistered and takes the pain away. Don't like the old wives tall ....butter?? probably the worst thing one could do. Nice cold snowbank works too. Hope you feel better. And put a couple $$ in the swear jug.

Weird
I just burnt my left index finger the other day.
I had been soldering on a ROHS board and there was some crusty crap on my soldering iron's tip. I went to wipe it off with a paper towel and somehow wiped it with the finger instead.........ouch.
Instant white charred skin.
Like Gary said, I immediately put an ice cube on it. It was much better a day later.

I found comfort in holding and enjoying an ice cold bottle of jager. Funny thing is my freezer door is full of bottles of jager at least 8. everytime my brother in law comes to visit he brings a bottle has a shot or two and puts it in my freezer. I don't really drink jager and total forgot it was there. I openned the freezer looking for a bag of pea's and let me tell you my heart skipped a beat... just what I needed ice cold glass and liquir
it's not a bad burn just a reminder to not be in a hurry and get more rest, I've had far worse. It blistered a little and split open, nothing some neosporen and time wont fix. I put $35 in my daughter piggy bank today and told her i owed her a dolly for having such a potty mouth.
Motor bikes are really sexy but woah are they unforgiving! two kinds of riders the ones who stopped before they fell off or the ones that got back up and kept riding. It's not if only when.
thanks for letting my vent.

I've found A & D ointment to be a real good burn cream. Its actually for diaper rash (I started using when I got my Tattoo's, its what the tattoo'ist recommended) but applied to a burn immediately (unless its like a instant big blister) the next day its not noticable, a little redness but no pain. Just thought I'd mention it.

Something I got that really helps a burn if it is rather severe is called
SSD or 1% Silver Sulfadiazine cream.
My wife works in a medical office and brought some home for me when I had burnt my arm on a hot oven door.
It really soothes the area and seemed to allow it to heal better.
Not sure if it is available over the counter.
Maybe Dr. Hulsey can weigh in on this stuff.

Feels especially nice up and down both sides of the spine.
Get into the doc tomorrow to see about the grinding collar bone. That one is real fun.
That looked like I'm turning into a smurf, thank the man up stairs nipples don't turn purple, but looks like a bullseye.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned putting Aloe Vera gel on a burn. I've been using it for years and swear by it.
It's especially good for sunburn because it doesn't smell too bad and you can smear on as much as you can stand. It's non-toxic, and you can eat/drink it.
We keep a squeeze bottle in the kitchen and my wife swears by it, too. Just goop up the burn with as much as you can put on. Reapply if it gets absorbed and keep a layer of gel on the burn for as long as you can manage. No blister. In many cases, you will be fine by the next day.
For those who think this is an old wives tale, think again:

Anyone one who runs a soldering iron should have a bottle nearby. The more immediate the treatment, the better the result. You wouldn't believe the difference a minute can make with a burn.

so far all the suggestions work the goal is to keep the skin that has been hurt moist and alive so the body will repair it otherwise the body writes it off as a loss and you loose it. You have to make sure the skin can breath or it's a loss as well. I.E. pealing after a sunburn.
