You should be able to get an idea of the costs from the BOM's here:

If the subject line means this is your first ever amp build, you are probably biting off more than you can chew. The one exception I'd make is if you were an EE and had old school knowledge of tube amps. The work is as much art as it is science. The essential "knowing when it's right" comes with experience. Try something easier first and get a kit. Caution, it's addictive.Parkerbarrow wrote:Thanks guys! any other last minute advice?

Poke around on the safety threads too. You can straighten your pubes with sloppy procedures. Here is one I started:

Plan on spending a grand unless you've done this before. If you're really clever about sourcing parts or you have a stash already it can be done for $50.00 to $400.00. The low number assumes you have a donor amp you got for free. It also assumes that the donor amp has "the right stuff".Parkerbarrow wrote:How much is it likely to cost?
More money equals a better build. I'd buy one of Allyn's chassis and some Toneslut transformers because they're correct, they're the good stuff and they'll save you the price of admission in grief, sweat and hassle.
Up until recently they were a very rare amp so the list of artitsts using them live is pretty short. Shorter than Dumble's.Parkerbarrow wrote:anybody gigging these? are they loud enough or do you need to mic them live?
"Are they loud enough"? Are you kiddin'? Your biggest challenge will be tryin' to find a place where you can really wind the wick up... 'cuz wide open there's nothing like it.
"Mic it"? Everyone mics everything. That's how you get a balanced mix through the mains.

Re: First time builder
You got something to play now? I wouldn't be lookin' to be buildin' one of those three because I needed an amp now. I'd go buy an AC30 reissue and then build the rocket to get something better.Parkerbarrow wrote:Ok guys I kinda wanna go for the AC30 sound and i want to be able to gig it so its gotta be loud.
