Do you mean the first one (120mA) or the beefed up 5f6-a tranny? I'm not sure I would want an oversized PT
Stevem - have you tried to experiment with variations of 5f6-a and ended up concluding only really sounds good with original big bottle power section + 2ohm 4x10? Just trying to read between the lines
That may well be the case, it's a very unique amp really

120ma is plenty for an amp that is not biased in class A and running 6V6s and looking for about 18 to 22 watts of clean rms power.

Re: 2-channel Fender 6V6?
Agreed. However, with 140ma one could run 6V6s OR 5881s or 6L6s. AND if you made it cathode biased, you can simply swap tubes without rebiasing. This is what I do on two of my amps where I change between 6V6, 5881 and 6L6s.120 ma is plenty for a amp that is not biased in class A and running 6V6s and looking for about 18 to 22 watts of clean rms power.

Well the thing is a 6V6 is looking to have a much higher impedance load then any type of 6L6 and the others in its clan.

Re: 2-channel Fender 6V6?
thanks Steve
What is the best way to design by build to accomodate 6V6's higher impedance load?
On PT, I suppose a 40W PT and OT accomodates 6L6's but I'm more focused on optimising tone around 15-20W (which is more than enough)
Would 100mA be enough for what I'm looking to build? This one seems to have higher specs?

Re: 2-channel Fender 6V6?
You can accommodate both 6L6s and 6V6s on the same OT by doing the speaker impedance trick to double the reflected impedance. Example: Get a robust 4k OT for 2x6L6 with 4, 8, and 16R secondaries such as a Bassman OT. For the stock 6L6 configuration, run an 8R speaker on the 8R tap and the tubes see 4k. To double the reflected impedance to 8k for a pair of 6V6s, run an 8R speaker on the 4R secondary.
To do this successfully, the OT needs to be able to handle the current of 2x6L6, so don't get a small 8k OT designed for 2x6V6 and try to run a pair of 6L6s on it (by halving the speaker impedance 8R speaker on a 16R tap), unless you know it can handle the current.

The JTM45 uses 6L6 family power tubes, with a primary loading anywhere from 8k with a Drake 784-103, down to 3k3 in the original Bluesbreaker combo, with an RS De Luxe wired for 6k6:15 ohms and its 7.5 ohm cab.
