A cry for help

Post by Reeltarded »

The way guitars have gone hasn't made me happy. We used to treat them like small treasure and trading cards. The fake money and run for a bit of that in the last twenty years really turned me off and left me depressed. When casual enthusiasts showed up with cashed in 401ks and used their home equity as leverage... no favors for anyone. Internet "gurus" and people who wanted to talk about anything really ruined the culture of it all. The amount of truth is almost homeopathic by this point.

This was going to be about something else. Ten seconds into the first thought I was hit by a realization that it's so very relative to how everything has been cheapened by greed and perception. The greed is in individuals and everyone runs to a colony of woked and krunked others to unionize separatism.

This is not a political question.

When I was a child they were in the final stages of putting down philosophers in something like a Stalinistic purge. It's very much like the identity war where individuals pretend they are activists for a cause, but the truth is more that everyone has become a mouthy, greedy, smarmy fucking cry baby.. squeaking wheels and all that.

We are living in a time of ethical free-fall and general bad manners.

Philosophy was traded for litigation and end user agreement style legislations.

There can't be equality until everyone agrees that we have all been victims of each other's insanity, equally..

Fat chance.

I'm only asking that if you consider yourself to be so different from the rest of humanity that you would take a moment to appraise the value in trying to gain priority. I don't think it's healthy. It is natural, but we are civilized enough to face that we are but monkeys with a finer grip, and that small margin is what allows a useful society to exist; simply that we can know.

Along the way, the right to one's own opinion

became

everyone's opinion should be heard

became

all opinons are valid

became

all ideas are equal

That is not true.

I feel like I am living in Samuel L Jackson's conversation with Ringo.. but I am trying real hard.

But, anyhow.. I have a guitar problem that was masked for a time by apathy. One tiny taste and I find myself absolutely sick again.

If this is the wrong section for this, please move it to the Dumble discussion. roflmao!

on a brighter note Stephen Hawkins thinks we've only got a 'solid 1000 years left on earth, and we need to find somewhere else to live in the next 100 years if the human race is to survive'

this doesn't help your guitar problem I'm afraid Miles,

have you lubricated your nut? :D

I hear guitars are not dead yet. Sales are improving in general, Guitar Center did not go under, and Gibson is trying hard to get back to being a musical instrument company.

no way i am doing this for another 1000 years... it's also drafty.. I need a shawl.

:P

Sales aren't noticably better. Guitar Center hasn't gone under because to wreck it would be like not flying the James Webb.. which is 14 years late and 2000% over budget without a delivery vehicle. It's 3 times later than it's service life is long.

:)

I should sound old.. I just watched a Golden Girls marathon.

I want one of Jelle's amps.

Hold on, now.. let's not get all crazy.

If you do sell something you should be able to replace it with a thing of any value.

There should also be an allowance for something you intend to sell but first buying another thing to take it's eventual space.

I also think trading something should add at least two spaces for another thing, not including what you got in the trade.

It's an incentive program. The government does it.. and it appears to be working just fine... Look at GM!!

Yep!

I'll bite, I'm enough of a weirdo to meet your "so different" criterion.

In the western world, Yang=solution, no one strives for any balance because the reality of the universe is subverted with the lie of debt and fake money. Like a smoker's tastebuds, people have lost all taste for Yin.

Vintage gear prices are simple supply and demand+inflation at this point, everything is expensive, but nothing is worth more than what some idiot will pay for it. If stuff seems too expensive to you, congratulations, you're not among the idiots. It was nice to be able to justify having a bunch of guitars because they were an "investment" that was gaining value, but they are only guitars and not "investments" until you actually sell them. It's a bit like being a scavenger dog on the savannah these days, picking through the carrion, but there's still some deals and sleepers out there the "experts" haven't vlogged out to the unwashed masses yet.

And, as people fall in love with crap, it's nice to unload it when it's hyped and get something nice. I have a nice Kay archtop and $$$ilvertone amp I'm fixing up that will make some Jack White fan's day.

Only 2 guitars?! The thing with guitar satiation is you will be more likely to stop buying them when you know you have enough. So if you think you would like to buy some more, then you should. Because when you have enough, you will know that you don't need any more. ('s how I see the situation anyhow.) Does that help?
