What are the best options for bypass caps here? I know philips BC KO are what seem to be in the photos - how essential are those?

You’ll get good results from any quality cap for cathode bypass: Nichicon, Panasonic, Illinois, etc.

What's up with the power transformer? Does it really have 2 secondaries for switchable high voltages? If you're using fender iron, you just choose one or the other? What are the two secondary voltages?

Hey guys - I'm eyeballing this as my next-next amp build (currently about to build my version of a 65 amps soho).
Is there any consensus of what transformers work best?
Does Heyboer have good irons for this?

I have built several of these amps using Hammond Power transformers and choke and Heyboer output transformers and they sounded great.

I built mine with '80's peavey Deuce 100w transformers and it sounds amazing. Dumble built amps with Peavey transformers.....#170 overdrive special for example.

I bought the whole amp for less than the price of a set of transformers.

Hi here is more specifics on the trannies.
I have used the Hammond 290 fx and 290dx and the 290cx PT and hammond 158M and 194a chokes for 100, 50 and 35watt builds and Heyboer Bassman output transformer 2/4/8 from mojotone for 50 watt build. I also used there Trainwreck output tranny for a 35 watt version I built and I also used the hammond 1760L and 1760W output trannies for 50 watt and 100 watt builds with good results.

All these sounded great.

Hi, I found them all close, maybe I preferred the heyboer when it came to rich clean tones and I may have preferred the hammonds when using overdrive pedal ( held together nicely). If I had a choice I would install both and switch between them but that would be too much of a hassle! I guess the best is too buy both and swap them out and see which one you prefer. When it comes to chokes I found I liked it best ( not too sterile) when there was at least 180 ohms of resistance on the choke. I feel you cant go wrong with either brand of OT .

These are just my findings, others my prefer differently.

I think you could build the Two Rock John Mayer Signature Reverb circuit with about any junk or salvaged transformers or any new store bought transformers and you will love this clean tone with reverb.

I bet you can't put your guitar down after playing through this amp circuit.
