Ebait, bought something I didn't need

Post by Phil_S »

I'm addicted to the derelict chassis on the cheap. Just closed on this for $19 shipped. I'm thinking it will do just about any PP 10-20W-ish. The real challenge will be packing the project into the existing real estate. Should be here next week.

Awesome. I'm horrible at finding good deals like that.

Nice one,
I almost paid a lot more for a 4" speaker... And there you have a full kit!

I'm a little concerned about the oval speaker. I'm thinking it won't put out that nice round sound!

I love junk scores like that! I picked up a baldwin leslie extension cabinet for $9 at an antique/junk shop one time with a 6l6 PP amp and Jensen p12N.

I made it into a 5E7, but I don't think the OPT is happy with that, so I'm going to rework it into a supro thunderbolt.

Geez, with those transformers shipping would have to be at least $10-15!

Don't let that smoke out!

I couldn't restrain myself. At that price, I figured if any one thing in the lot is good (speaker, OT, PT, chassis, something else) I pretty much get my money's worth. I think I bid $6 plus shipping. Ordinarily I expect someone will swoop in and over pay, snaking the item away from me. One thing I have, despite my lack of self restraint, is a low ceiling on lots of this type. I might have been willing to go as high as about $25. It is really important not to get sucked in. Bid one time what you are willing to pay and then walk away from it. I guess this is an addiction with discipline? Really, if you overpay, it ruins the sport aspect of it.

The package arrived on Saturday. This is a really bare bones amp. It looks as if there must have been an umbilicus to a preamp that was cut.

This thing is small, chassis is 10" x 2.5".

The PT is 300-300 no CT, no load. I am guessing 280-ish with a load. I'm guessing I'll need to use a 6V6 or 6K6 for the power tube.

Given the limited room, I figure I can shoehorn in a PTP Champ like circuit.

The OT under the voltage test is about 6600:4 SE, but it is a decent size and I'm thinking 5W. I misread the picture, thinking it was PP, but that's OK. The oval speaker is 6.5" and the round is 4". I didn't meter them...they look like junque. Maybe time will prove me wrong?

Several date codes for year are all 8. It has a pre-zip code label on it with a 2 digit zone code, making this 1958.

All in all, I think I got a nice project. When I get to it, I'll open a new thread in a more appropriate part of the forum.
