WOW! It's a new decade... for me...

Post by John_P_WI »

Yep, today is the big one. The big 50. After taking an inventory of my life, where I've been, what I have, and where I'm going it has been a rather humbling experience.

Some of you know the last five years have been filled with turmoil, personal tribulations and a relentlessly selfish ex backed by a court system. Hopefully all of that is behind me and the new decade sails smoothly.

Peace, here is to a better future for all of us, and maybe, just maybe I can finish some of the projects.

Prost (hey it's 5:30 some where...)

Aaaaaaaahh you GEEZER! Here's to smooth(er) sailing. I hoist my first cuppa mud for the day in your general direction, "prost!" Treat yourself to a nice adult beverage later on. :D

Here's some of what you'll be looking forward to if they haven't already happened.

Bifocals, if you have glasses. Or reading glasses if you don't.

Hair growing out of unexpected places. If I could transplant my nose hair to the top of my head I could look a lot less stone-bald on top. Some start growing hair in the ears. In chilly Wisconsin that might be a good thing.

Thanks Guys! Nick, half-century, oooh that sounds old hehe, Leo spot on with your examples and yes, progressive lenses already.

I will say, I feel that I have aged more in the last 5 years than the preceding 45. Hopefully the roller coaster sloooows down - but keeps on moving.

Happy birthday young man. While Leo seems to have cynically hit the nail on the head, there is much you can do for yourself to keep from aging too quickly.

Get as much physical and mental exercise as you can. Take up yoga, which is really great for clearing the mind and building strength, stamina, and recovering the flexibility of your youth. As a bonus, yoga classes are filled with young blond nymphs who can twist themselves into a pretzel. Once you loosen up (takes 3-6 months) and learn to do that too, you'll be irresistible. I guarantee, this is sound advice.

I rue the day I had to quit yoga due to a neck injury (not related to the practice of yoga.) I have that problem pretty well managed now, but the loss of momentum is difficult to overcome.

Right on, Happy Birthday John! Cheers. Glad to hear all that bad juju is in your rear view mirror. Good advice on getting and staying in shape. Plus, it's a good hedge against having to deal much with the healthcare system.

CoEnzyme Q10 also - if you haven't started already. Keeps flexible parts flexible. Good for all connective tissue, heart, gums etc. 50-60-75 mg and up that to 100 at 55 or so. Look for sales on quality brands, avoid "dry" pills, use only liquid or gel form. Dry form isn't absorbed well & just a waste of $$$.

Yoga, yeh any activity that involves supple young women - heh heh heh - that's guaranteed to keep the spark going. :D ;) Amazing the way biochemistry works, innit? Woo-hoooooo, yeah!

Yeah, that has been my problem, my affinity for the younger beautiful asian gals, anyhow after this last round I won't have enough $$$ to be a player anymore.

Hmmm, yoga... women, flexible, local... maybe it is time to shop a little closer to home. Time to get in shape, hehe

Truly, thanks to all for the bday wishes, comments and support. I truly hope that we can all meet up someday. You guys are great.

Hey hey hey, go easy on us old guys!
John, welcome to your sixth decade.
50 was a very difficult birthday for me, a lot of angst and depression.
But the good news is, 60 was a piece of cake!
65..........well.........another story.......................some other time

I see you are in Wisconsin. Another side benefit of yoga (done right), it burns enough calories that you can probably have all the brats & beer you want without gaining an ounce.

Thanks Phil, I hope my arthritic shoulders won't hurt too much. Guess I just need to start slowly and build strength. Think maybe I will try to bike a little too, IF winter ever ends.
