RIP Bill Lawrence

I read this yesterday over on Warmoth's builder forum:

A statement from Becky Lawrence:

"With great sadness in our hearts, the man we know as Bill Lawrence in the music industry passed away on November 2, 2013 at approximately 9:20AM.

Bill was a strong and courageous man. Even in his last few days, Bill fought to live. He'd talk about Music, Pickups & Guitars -- and Life, and we, at his company, were still working because this is what Bill Lawrence wanted to know -- that his company & legacy is carrying on as usual.

We will miss the Bill Lawrence Mighty Force. Bill brought so much, and he wanted to stay here on earth to keep giving. One thing, yesterday as preparing the necessary paperwork, required is Designation of Race. In Honor of Bill Lawrence and his wishes, we included Human.

A Memorial Service is being planned later this week in Southern California. More details to follow.

I first learned of Bill Lawrence from reading about Alex Lifeson's gear many years ago. The iconic solo from Limelight was recorded on a Strat clone with a Bill Lawrence L500 humbucker in the bridge.

We lose another innovative genius of our time.
I have and use all his versions of single coils-twin blades, microcoils, and Keystones.
All are well designed, well made, and perform as advertised.
I am currently using Keystones in my strat and tele, and they work.
He fought cancer long and hard.
A tough old buzzard.

Damn..

His Fender SCN pickups have been a not-so-secret weapon for me for a while. They don't necessarily sound like vintage Fender pickups, but they have an amazing fidelity and work well with whatever I put them through. They're also more noiseless than traditional humbuckers (actually the quietest I've ever used), so when I'm chasing down hum I tend to use these pickups.

Also I've had a BL 500XL for many years now (back from when I was a huge Dimebag fan) and that has been another great pickup in the arsenal. It becomes a whole different beast when put in parallel, makes a very spanky single-coil sounding humbucker that kills for clean chickin-pickin stuff.

Anywho I was a huge fan and I'm sorry to hear about this loss.

L610 on the bridge here, have many others but the L610 seriously presses all buttons.
We cannot thank this man enough.

Keystones here. Tele. He was fun to talk to too. Not one ounce of bullshit anywhere in his psyche. It's good to hear that they will carry on the legacy.
