Talk to me about Concorde/KF50 Transformers

Post by lgehrig4 »

I've decided my next project will be a Concorde clone and I just want to confirm something about the transformers before I place an order. From this site I found the following info for Heyboer trannys for a Concorde.

#1
Power transformer HTS-8593
Output transformer HTS-5526-1RH
Choke HTS-7750-1

#2
Power transformer HTS-8593
Output transformer HTS-5526
Choke HTS-7550

The Heyboer rep said that "RH" stands for Robert Hinson and that he had a slightly different spec. Are either of these the correct/best options for a Concorde or are there other options out there?

I think I might set the record for most views with no replies. I spoke with the man himself (mr Hinson) so I am all clear on which transformers to get. How do you delete a thread? This one will just be wasting space.

Why not post what you found out? Rather than delete this thread make it useful by putting some useable info in it.

Yes. Spent some time with him on the phone the other night. Very knowledgeable and cool guy! I'm buying a set of these transformers from him.

Now, can anyone tell me where to get one ofthose sweet chassis that I keep seeing on your Concorde clones? I would really like one of those.

I don't think anyone has one. At least I can't seem to find one.

I built a K50 version in a "standard" Trainwreck chassis. No noise problems and I much prefer that format. Although you need vertical end bells for your transformers (Heyboer provided those to me).

I saw that one. Very nice! Doesn't look stock. Could you tell us about the mods you added?

Apart from the layout itself it's all quite standard. Let's see: Footswitchable fast/slow modes (with some voicing tweaks in fast mode for lead work), power scaling (London power SB1), dual bias adjustment, fuses for B+, heaters and relay power suply (I'm using the 5vac rectifier tube heater supply for that) and three very small rc filters before and after rectification for cleaning up diode switching noise. Heater voltage is elavated by about 70v+. Some voicing tweaks too, to make it cut through the mix better.
