Scott hi fi

Post by tsutt »

Iknow i probably shouldn't ask here but i just spent 2 hrs on the net trying to find some info nothing yet. if you know where i can get some good info let me know.

So i have a scott 299d i just recapped it. before i put power to it hasnt' seen power for 35 years. no tubes to check power trans 805 ac line to line at the rec socket schematic say 720. so put a rec in to check a couple points power tube heaters are about 1 volt hi. the plate on the power tube is reading 560 schematic say 456. It runs 7591 a power tubes with a max plate v at 550 this is unloaded but seems rather hi to me.

Unloaded voltages are always higher.

Well likely that's not too far out, but maybe close to half of the over-voltage you have. My guess is it's ok to try it with tubes in and see what you get. particularly if the cap job was straight-forward, with little chance that you could have screwed something up.

Thanks Martin

I'm thinking it will be ok with the extra load from the tubes dropping the voltage some. If you have a filament transformer you can wire it up to knock the line voltage down. See here for a couple of ways to do it: http://174.122.4.235/~antiquer/forums/v ... 6&t=131048

Picked up a tranny at the shack yesterday. and ran into a friend i haven't seen in a while. he's got a 3 gang variac he's going to borrow me. he'll sell it but i cant afford it.

Anybody messed with the new light dimmers? they have a setup that shuts of the circuit momentarily, with a choke and rated at 600watts. probably create noise?

Dropping the voltage also drops the heater voltage, watch for them to get in line and the high voltage should be as designed. Scott ran with higher voltages using the 7591's. Or better yet, the schematic says 430V on the OT.
