I just put this up on another forum, and I thought it might be useful here. Most places that sell kep nuts charge way too much, and they don't have every size. A while back, I came across Fastener Mart. I got nuts in sizes 4, 6, and 8, and the cost was not bad at all. I'm set for life.

Relax. It's SUPPOSED to smoke a little.

McMaster-Carr is the go to source at work.

I use McMaster Carr too - they are the fastest to ship
I like going to my local hardware store but they rarely stock the 4-40 stuff. McMaster has stainless 4-40 hardware in stock at all times, and that really allows for a good noval socket attachment without worrying about stripping the threads - I am sure I am not the only one who has done that!

When I'm organized I use McMaster too but I'm not above shopping the Bay for onesies that I forgot to put in with a bigger order. A lot of guys will get a big box of something and sell ten at a time for a modest markup plus a padded envelope. Make sure you include some non-standard spellings of the item you need in your search parameters
