Taking up building (again).....ROCKET!

Post by KISSFanEsq »

Hey all,

I think this might be my first posts here. Ive looked around a little bit and seems like this is the place to get advice for a build.

I have built a couple amps in the past, but nothing that came out to good. Mainly because I didn't follow anyone recipe. So I do have some experience in building, and an education in electrical engineers for audio.

I want to build a rocket clone (actually I want to build a z wreck, but don't know how you guys feel about that). I have looked around here but don't even know where to start. There is just too much.

I want to do this right. Get the right schematic, transformers, turret board, layout, chassis, components, etc.

Can someone point me in the right direction? How much will this run me in parts?

You've chosen a great amp to start with! They are fairly forgiving, sound wonderful and are a great learning platform. There are a lot of rocket gurus around here. Just read, read and read.

RJ is one of them, is a great guy, and he has a nice assortment of parts.

Having just completed two Rocket builds using RJ's chassis and parts, I can report that the schematic and layout found here https://tubeamparchive.com/viewforum.php?f=3 is excellent and has most bugs worked out. Parts cost around $800, not including the head cabinet, and RJ's parts are top quality and his service is great.

That's a great build log, xtian! I'm gonna have to bookmark it. VERY nice build quality as well.
