Tube ID?

Post by Structo »

Anybody have any idea what brand this tube is?

I have a few green label Baldwins that appear to be grey plate Sylvania's but this one has a black plate, yellow label.
Looks brand new.

Raytheon? RCA?

Can't remember what it sounds like.

Only time I've seen plates like that is on a Raytheon, but it could be Sylvania as well. I don't think I own any Sylvania black plates though..

I would tend to agree. Both Raytheon and Sylvania made shiny blackplates. Longplate, too, I bet it sounds good!

Since I think Sylvania made more tubes than Raytheon, statistically it's more likely to be a Sylvania. However in a sample size of one, statistics don't mean squat!

Well after some more research I am 99% sure it is a Raytheon.
It has the paper clip thing on top of the mica and the plate structure is just like the pictures I saw of the long black plate Raytheons.

I have a bout six of these in my Dumble clones. Seem to sound good. :D

Organ tubes.
Shhhhhhh, they are the best kept secret going.

Raytheon. I have one and also a Sylvania and recently compared them. In your 1st pic you can see the rectangular punchouts on the ends of the plates. Notice how the top and bottom of each cutout has a bent tang coming thru it. The Sylvanias I have/saw don't have those tangs visible.
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.
