OT question

Post by surfsup »

I saw a post here from about a year ago (forgot to grab the link) that the poster stated the Hammond 125DSE (10W 70mA DC) runs very hot with an EL34. If I wanted to upgrade this, what transformer would work well for me for the p1x HO build? I looked at the heyboer they are selling (20W) and its $65. I am going to build it first with the Hammond but just curious if there's a tone difference between OTs. I can always use one of the OTs in another build.

Form money and tone, I don't think you'll beat Musical Power Supplies:

About half the price of a Hammond.

I'll check em out. Thanks.

Another question. on the wires leading from the transformer(s) is there any reason to NOT cut them to the length I need an have no extra? Or should I leave the extra and just coil it in the amp body?

Coils? NO. You will have to be creative, and still suffer some anyhow. Coils create inductance. Right?

:)

Better off using the one you intend to use, and trimming it.
