Deep switch ckt location on Bob-Is schematic
Bob-I, I noticed your schematic shows the Deep switch ckt connected before the CL Vol. I wired mine like the Hybrid revA, after the CL Vol. Any advantage to place it before? Also recheck your schematic preamp/ PI tube pinouts.
Thanks for the suggestion to swap the Cathode cap values on CL2 and OD2. It tamed the high end grit and was able to remove the treble bleed ckt at OD2 (.001 w/250k pot), much appreciated. Bob

Um... I don't use the deep switch. I'll check the pinouts.BobW wrote:Bob-I, I noticed your schematic shows the Deep switch ckt connected before the CL Vol. I wired mine like the Hybrid revA, after the CL Vol. Any advantage to place it before? Also recheck your schematic preamp/ PI tube pinouts.

Sorry Bob, thought this was your schematic.

You know what.... that IS my schematic.BobW wrote:Sorry Bob, thought this was your schematic.

yeah, I don't use the deep switch much either. My schematic is basically the same as Hybrid revA w/o the mid boost switch. thanks
Re: Deep switch ckt location on Bob-Is schematic
What? No Deep switch? How ya gonna get Carlton tone without a Deep switch?
BTW, it should really be called a "Soft" switch since it really just takes the edge off of the tone.

Re: Deep switch ckt location on Bob-Is schematic
Not in my experience. On my Super Reverb it really fattens up the drives the bottom end, on my Hybrid it flubbed out the bottom end, so I removed it.Normster wrote:BTW, it should really be called a "Soft" switch since it really just takes the edge off of the tone.
If it really just took the edge off the tone I'd like it. Maybe I should try again.

Just thinking if there is a possibility that the "Deep" switch in LC's amp is the same circuit as the #0124 amp. (?)Normster wrote:What? No Deep switch? How ya gonna get Carlton tone without a Deep switch?![]()
Re: Deep switch ckt location on Bob-Is schematic
What circuit?? Isn't that midboost in 124??

Re: Deep switch ckt location on Bob-Is schematic
as i understand it and hear it, it's a mid cut....gets you a mid scoop that's why it seems to have more low end...

Re: Deep switch ckt location on Bob-Is schematic
Well, that's what I meant, the front panel says "Deep" and I thought 124 was roughly the same era as one of Carlton's. Just wondered what people think about the possibility that this could be what is in his amp.dogears wrote:What circuit?? Isn't that midboost in 124??
Re: Deep switch ckt location on Bob-Is schematic
Remember 124 was modified by Dumble later, when it got the Skyliner EQ. Originally the switch did what it's supposed to do, i.e., the "Deep" thing, not the "Mid" thing like it does now. Lord knows how (I'm sure it has been) LC's amp has been modified.Pete wrote:Well, that's what I meant, the front panel says "Deep" and I thought 124 was roughly the same era as one of Carlton's. thanks guys, my deep switch is wired after the CL Vol, just didn't understand the reason why it was shown before the vol?

Hey Gil, you know the more I listen to Carlton's tone the more I think that Dr D may have increased the compression on V1B by lowering the feedback resistor to maybe say 10M or less. Just a thought.ayan wrote: Remember 124 was modified by Dumble later, when it got the Skyliner EQ.
