Can you tell me which Marshall model it most closely resembles? I picked up a half stack for a song yesterday, and I have no familiarity with Marshall amps. For a Chinese pc board amp, it sounds pretty decent.
Thanks!
Lou

None of them. It's quite a bit different from any Marshall. The preamp is somewhat similar to a hot rodded Marshall, but not a copy of anything. Phase inverter is not the typical long tailed pair and the power tube suppressor grid is connected to bias voltage not ground.
Pretty cool amps. Sounds best loud.

I've got one I got on the cheap too as it was "broke". I modded it into a hotrodded JCM800 and converted PI to LTPI. It sounds killer but no one wants it cause it says PV Windsor on it.
Boost switch is useful, I use it on my amps sometimes. IIRC series .0022>150K across treble cap from plate to treble wiper..
The Windsor was 4 stages w/ plate driven stack w/ a 39K 4th stage. I changed mine to 3 hot stages + CF.

Re: Anyone familiar with the Peavey Windsor?
Thanks, guys. Yup, I noticed the cathodyne inverter right off - as well as the suppressor grids' interesting alternate connection.

I'm not sure what I am going to do with this thing. I paid $235 for the head and matching slant 4x12 cab. The seller told me the cab was 4x10 - and I happen to be looking for a 4x10. So I figured for the price I paid, I could flip the head, and get a free 4x10 out of the deal. After looking at Peavey's published spec sheet for the cab, I see that not only is it a 4X12, but it's just a few ounces short of 90 freakin' pounds. So this is not going to work at all.
Jerry, you're right - this thing sounds really good cranked up. But I am leaning toward amps in the 20 to 50W range these days. The lower back ain't what she used to be. Not to mention I'm going deaf.....
I've also thought about gutting the head and building something point to point in it. But at 100W, it probably wouldn't be much more than a single-channel, clean amp. Maybe a Hiwatt.
I am probably going to just sell the whole thing.
So...... why not rebadge it?Smokebreak wrote:no one wants it cause it says PV Windsor on it.

And you are using the CF to drive the tone stack?Smokebreak wrote:I changed mine to 3 hot stages + CF.

Man, wish you were closer! I'd gladly give you your $235 for that stuff.
My wife, on the other hand? She's glad you're far away.

Re: Anyone familiar with the Peavey Windsor?
I thought about rebadging it, Lou, and offering a "YOUR NAME HERE" service
Yep I fed the TS off the CF like a normal Marshall would. You should have no problem getting your $$ back if you want. Though getting rid of 4x12s these days seems more difficult than getting rid of an organ.
