Finally Plexi 6V6 build

Post by JoeCon »

With temps in New England finally rising I can go to the basement and begin work on my long delayed Plexi 6V6 build.
My brother bought a bunch of caps and resistors for me at Christmas and I tried to use them in this build. There are those Jupiter caps and Takman carbon film resistors. I had to get some 1/2 watt ones because those 1 watters are so big. Also Edcor transformers and choke.

Looking good Joe. I'm curious about your rectification, is that the "Fowler" one you used on the Liverpool build? Is there a drawing of this somewhere? I would like to use that as well.

Joe

No this is not the Fowler I used for my Rocket and Liverpool.
This is a simple one with a choke and a single cap/resistor for each drop.
Here's where I got those supplies from:

Thanks Joe, sorry I should have looked at what pictures you posted. Duh yeah I see the choke....I don't want to hijack this thread, I just finished building Marks rocket from the PDFs you posted. I just want to do all the voltage checks before turning it on, can't wait to see your finished product...happy building.

What voltage and output impedance are you using for this build?

Little,

The PT is a 285-0-285 at 250mA.
OT is 6k6 unit.

Call me Ryan :)

Cool, be interesting to see how this build sounds. What 6V6s are you using?

Ryan

Right now just JJ's, but cheking out some NOS ones too...
If I've got enough bas voltage I could probably try EL34's too, with the 6k6 ala the Express, yes?

Or even KT66s :). Dont buy EH6V6s. I tried some in my Express and they red plate. Not impressed!

After some unexpected delays I was able to complete a little more of the Plexi 6V6 I've been working on. Some pictures of the NOT completed amp...

That looks great Joe. Very well done.
For JJ 6V6's - treat them like 6L6's - they'll take a beating.
A little dinking with the bias supply string & you'll have a lot of options for power tubes.

Bob,
Thanks, final wiring yet to be done but very interesting so far. Yes bias circuit is new for me so tinkering with it for sure.
So drive those 6v6's hard huh? Will do...
