18watt plexi

Post by mark enger »

Here's my 18watt plexi, I used a blues jr pt and a newsenser fender ot 8.4k with a 16 ohm only output tap these are pretty sweet ots @ a great price like 20$, and orange drops its a pretty fiery little amp, its very loud and i think the orange drops give it a little different tone than the yellow tubular caps i usually use in my 18watters, Im getting a little hiss out of the treble pot when cranked not real bad, other than that it pretty quiet at idle. mark

Nice clean look & wiring. I like the black chassis.

Mark good looking build.

Recently I built the 18w JCM800 EL84's and also in 2008 or so I build an 18w Plexi EL84's but I think I prefer to use a 6V6 power section, which do you prefer EL84's or 6V6?

I like the el84, 6v6 in most of my amps seem mushy to me, I have also used el34 and kt66 in this amp, with great results. mark

I'm sure Geddy was using the washing machine spin cycle for his keyboard rotary speaker emulator.

I find 6v6's to get mushy with high gain amps.Pumping the voltage up to around 450 seems to help.Yes they can handle IT just drop the bias to around 60% OR SO
