72 Marshall Aritste'

Post by randalp3000 »

I feel a bit guilty but I just scored a beautiful 2x12 combo for under $1200. I can't believe it sold for so little. It is one sexy beast, my favorite looking combo. I just hope to god it survives shipping. Gut shots appear quite stock except for a few electrolytics.

Looks like a pretty low gain circuit which is ok with me and I'm sure the reverb will be a bit weak. Have any yous guys played through one of these?

Yep! The revrb is as you say, and it's usually tinny. Easy fixes for all that. These amps sound good with a compressor for countryish stuff. Neat amp!

I am not sure why you feel guilty? That aint' cheap for what it is. I sincerely hope you enjoy the amp. I am not really a Marshall expert, but I do know it's not Marshall's finest moment. A friend had one many years ago and no one seemed to be able to bond with that amp. It sat in the corner of our rehearsal basement all alone, untouched and unloved.

Ouch, I do appreciate your honesty. I like to run my amps clean and as loud as possible but I am also an AC30 guy. I hope I like it.

But come on all this for $1150 shipped.........

Last one I saw sell was almost that nice and a teeny over $1k more.. retail and a smidge.

At the price you paid I would already be warming up the iron to do a couple things. :)

Nothing is sacred. Everything is an amp kit. Try to build that for a grand off a shelf. No way this day Jose.

I didn't want to be a buzzkill, but you asked. If you want smoke blown up your ass, just specify that next time. :P

From my past experience, I wouldn't have paid that for it. You could view it as an amp kit, in which case you could mod it into something you like and yes you could not build that as a clone for that kind of money. The problem is that if you mod it, you will lose it's resale value cause it won't be original anymore. It's resale desirability isn't at the top of the Marshall list, but you were attracted to it so I guess others will be. I would only mod it if I were going to keep it for good. Otherwise, I would do the minimum and try to use it for what it is good for. Maybe I just couldn't appreciate it as a 16 year old. Let us know how it goes.

Randall, keep both of these guys away from your amp, at least boobytrap it.

(use fake boobs)
