Sounds right. My BB rebuild will forever have an idle hum because the amps were built with the PT 90° from how it is supposed to be.

Nothing lasts forever. Forever can be fixed by 1 degree of freedom.

Call-me-clever department: I replaced the #8 stainless nuts holding the OT in place with #6 nuts, and this provided enough freedom to push the OT into the null, reducing the hum drastically. Definitely within spec now. Hooray!

If-its-not-one-thing-its-another department: I have major "bacon frying", random static white noise, but only when Bright or Normal channel volume controls are up, and noise vanishes if I pull V1. Already replaced tube, same sizzling. Bad solder connection or plate resistors?

Bright or normal.. because of the way they interact..

Just check every joint from both inputs through v1 to the mixer. It's going to be on the cathode side probably, but only takes 10 seconds to check the other 4pts hmm?

Check your board grounds and input grounds?

Bacon? Is that so bad?

Bright and Normal both, and individually. Anyway, retouched solder joints and all is well.

Did you get the amp into a head cab?

I would love to see the lighting. :D

Hi Xtian, Just curious which way (towards the back of the amp?) you had to push the OT to stop the hum, or was it more of a rotation?

Lou, the trannys were like left side of image below, and I had to push the OT so they were centered with respect to each other. This cancelled the hum.

Tom, you'll have to settle for my prototype, v1, in which I installed a strip of blue LEDs, shown below.

Thanks, all'y'all!

Here's a detail photo of the nameplates. They're laser etched on black cap/white base Gravoply <http://www.labelengraving.com/Gravoply_ ... utdoor.htm>.
