Are you finding all the action happens at the very top of the presence pot?cbass wrote:No its totally different I'm not sure how it works honestly

No but it seems to be a pretty unique effect. I need to play with it some more and make some mental notes.Smokebreak wrote:Are you finding all the action happens at the very top of the presence pot?cbass wrote:No its totally different I'm not sure how it works honestly
It seems to add bass and trebles
It kinda reminds me of the bbe sonic maximizers but better.
I have to say it sounds pretty regular with the presence all the way down.
Oh its scratchy too.
I think I'm going to just hardwire the cathode bypass boost.the low input needs it all the time.
I got an advance on my allowance so I'm ordering some 500kpots and some other stuff. I need to finish this thing.
Then I'll post some gutshots.

Looking forward to seeing the schematic - I'm curious about the "totally different" presence circuit. I used to have a huge rack rig, with a bbe, and I liked it!

Cool. Those clips sound really good. It totally made me wake up real early and I spent all day putting just the low circuit in my mule(it is now). I used the schematic with the date on it and 2xEL34, no f/x loop. This thing is a monster. really thick and a bit dark. It has that angry Marshall without the fizzy topend. I'll have to recheck my presence wiring but mine is really dark all the way down, and lots of action at the top. I'll be interested to see how you wired yours but it's definitely unlike any other presence I've heard. Maybe someone can explain it. It kinda looks like there's some fixed resonance happening?
Yep I'm getting the same thing with the cathode boost, but I think I'm gonna leave in the switch for single coils. Maybe the 500k's are the key to the smooth dark sound, cause everything is bypassed with tiny caps. It's just so damn well-balanced! Again, thanks a bunch for turnin me on to these.
Did you do your 2nd stage(my 1st) with the mega res/cap network or just the straight 2n2?

The NFB in this circuit is like an anti-presence- its a high-pass shelving filter, with a -6dB/octave slope from ~7500 Hz when the pot is at max resistance, and the pot moves the level -30dB (by sliding the curve up 5 octaves), reducing the NFB.

I bet you can hum amp sounds if you see schematics. Weird.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Well, I had a pretty good idea of what was going on by looking, but to make numbers it's easy to wire up a sim and run it. ;^)

You just keep kidding yourself, brainiac.

Thanks Martin I was waiting for that itmartin manning wrote:The NFB in this circuit is like an anti-presence- its a high-pass shelving filter, with a -6dB/octave slope from ~7500 Hz when the pot is at max resistance, and the pot moves the level -30dB (by sliding the curve up 5 octaves), reducing the NFB.
Now I just have to figure out what this means

I think you would like it better if it was actually in the useable range for guitars instead of dog whistles.

Good thing I have super dog hearing
I'll try to post a vidya to show what the presence control does.I know you guys can't wait to hear some more of my badass licks
