Oh oh oh..

The ref should remain with the added stage and be lifted on the other when switched from cleanish to dirty. (as if the normal input is empty)

I made up several "keys" from 1/4" plugs for an amp I built. These "keys" had various opposing diode pairs and one with just a wire loop. The amp was a plexi with the one-wire and the lo inputs deleted.

One input was normal, one was the brite, and then when you plug into the brite and use a key in the normal input it went nutso fantastigain mostly from adding that second 1M from the jack on the normal.

See if that anecdote might give you some other ideas. You said you had a three switch relay in there, right? ;)

Interesting. I like the idea of "keys" but switchable with the relays. Hmmm.

Well, this one's been in park for awhile...actually I've been playing it through the Line 6 cab and just too uninspired to finish the cab until recently.

Here's the steps to the finish line. Too bad I labeled the faceplate upside down...or is it?

I set the chassis in to mark the front and rear cleats for the baffle and rear panels.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build111.jpg[/img]

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build112.jpg[/img]

Then drilled and screwed them in place.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build113.jpg[/img]

Drilled and fit the baffle.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build114.jpg[/img]

With the chassis back in place, it's a tight fit. The top edge of the baffle actually sits on two of the screws in the filter cap doghouse. I had to drill holes in the edge to get it to sit flush.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build116.jpg[/img]

That remaining exposed chassis with be covered by the grill bezel.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build115.jpg[/img]

I drilled and fit the rear panels.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build117.jpg[/img]

Then it was time for some putty work. I used Timbermate because it dries quickly and sands very easily.

While the putty was drying, I cut the baffle.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build121.jpg[/img]

A couple of clamps held the 70 watt Lady Luck in place while I marked for T-nuts.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build122.jpg[/img]

Then blacked out the inside cab and backs of the panels.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build123.jpg[/img]

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build124.jpg[/img]

Assembly time. The front of the chassis is held in place by the baffle. It's a tight fit and locked in place by the two doghouse screws that act as locating pins.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build128.jpg[/img]

I made two ash brackets that support the rear of the chassis and they are bolted through the sides of the cab. And, the holes are plugged with the plastic caps from the donor amp.

[IMG:1024:768]http://www.crenshawweb.com/plexi50/build126.jpg[/img]

Instead of spending time and money on Tolex, I decided to spray the outside of the cab with truck bed liner. It worked out well but could use either a few more coats or a satin clear coat.

It sounds great through the Eminence. I was a bit concerened because the BC30 was a bit shrill and ice-pickish, it likely had more to do with the circuit than the speakers because this one sounds very warm and has that real creamy breakup when I max out the amp.

I hope to do some recording with the finished product this weekend.

I'm already considering making this a mini stack. This would solve several issues.

1, The faceplate would be correct since I would flip the chassis over in a head cab.

2, The controls would be in the traditional order from left to right.

3, It's a very heavy little combo...probably pushing 60lbs.

4, And most important, the rear panel gets fire hot next to the power tubes. Step 1 mentioed above would let the heat out thru vents in the head cab. I guess I could just add a cooling fan but that would only make issue 3 worse...slightly.

Wow, you did lots of great work and i bet it is heavy!

Head cab is so easy. It is. :)

Looks good.

I use the Lady Luck speaker as my bench test speaker, it works well with my 18w Marshall amps.

Thanks Miles!

Yeah, I figure I'll shave off the top of the combo cab, reset the baffle and cut the sides down to fit. Then put a new top on it. I'll make the head about 1.5" deeper so the tubes are farther from the rear panel. Might use the extra 11.5VAC tap on the PT to add a fan just for good measure. Should be easy.

I'll still need to pull the faceplate off and get some more clear on it so I can wet sand it to cover the decal edges. I think I'll add the one-wire mod relay as well while the chassis is open. Guess I'll have to rectify that 11.5VAC tap.

Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised by the Lady Luck...had already started searching other options but I think I'll stick with it.

Doing some quick accounting, and considering the chassis, donor amp and speaker were free, I have about $75 in this project. Mostly in wood, paint and a few components. Not bad for a budget build.

This was my first attempt at amp building. I just built the cabs around the chassis from a Vox AC4TV and the other Lady Luck from the donor amp...you can see it sitting, neglected, in the background. If it only knew then what I might have in store for it.

Again a very nice looking cabinet or cabinets :)

That Epiphone could be gutted and brought back to life.

Thanks!

I listed the BC30 carcass several months back and it sold within 2 hours. Always amazed what folks will buy. :o

The lil amp is amazing, and you can barely buy a pickup for $75 holy crap. :)
