Re: 50w Hot Rod Plexi AFD #39
Yes, I built a 50 watter years ago heavily based on DBM's schematics-------- But I used 6L6GC output tubes and BF Fender type iron.
I didn't have it long because a player came over to talk about a custom build, plugged into it (playing Iggy and the Stooges riffs) and wanted to buy it that moment.
But that amp is the main amp in this sound clip done by another friend while I still had it:
https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9924119
When I built the #39 type amp, most of the players around here were playing Death Metal and I was told "not enough gain" over and over.
So I moved on to higher gain circuits/voicing that were way beyond Slash type amps.
Then I came full circle and built near stock 2204 type amps and used an OD pedal.
Lately I've been more interested in AB763 circuits + pedals.
All types of amps are good, IMO, it just depends on what we're interested in at the moment.

That amp sounds very much like what I built same sound to me.
My amp has 5751 in V1 to tame it some what but we all love the amp with Switch 2 engaged the .68uf cap. Harmonic monster.
For two channel type situations the players just add a tube screamer or some other favorite device to get more.
I am just fine with the amp stock and run Boss RV-5 reverb in the loop or DD3 in the loop.

Now you're making me want to build another-
It is a very good sounding Hard Rock amp circuit.
The other day I was trying out Dist pedals into a 50 watt, 1x12 combo, AB763 circuit (w/Raw pot and PPIMV), Reverb In/Out pots, amp that I built a few yrs ago----- Celestion G12K100 speaker.
I was using an OCD when the player from the band next door came over (he plays two Mesa Triple Rec Fullstacks at the same time).
He was amazed at how much sound (pretty heavy tone, too) was coming out of the 1x12 combo (he initially heard it through the wall)----- he thought I was playing something through my usual Orange 4x12 single cab and wanted to see what I was testing out.
Then I clicked off the OCD and showed him the beautiful, lush, stock-ish AB763 clean tone w/reverb that the amp can do.
He said, "It sounds fantastic ! But I need to use full stacks on stage for the music we play"------ "It's the look, the crowd would laugh if I showed up with a 1x12 combo"
So his band hauls around two full stacks.............. and a full stack for the bass, too.
I'm not young so I don't much like the idea of hauling full stacks around when the amps are going to be mic'd through the PA anyway.
I'm trying to get used to the idea of a 1x12 combo but I'm still clinging to my old Orange 4x12 cabs.
And maybe a new #39 build to push the 4x12.

Re: 50w Hot Rod Plexi AFD #39
Hasn't these young labs heard of stage props, light weight empty cabs with paper stapled in speaker holes or paint on speaker?
1-12" is the way to go. Just had my cabinet guy make me a 1-12" Thiele cab to try out.
I prefer my 212 cab to push some air though.

Very nice looking build! Do you have a layout and schematic posted?

Preamp schematic has been posted many times but no layout unless someone enjoys making those.

My cab guy finished spraying the cabs.
I need to paint inside black, add handle, remove blue painters tape, and black cab corners.

Looks great. So tempted to build a high gain monster some day. Maybe this or a Dirty Shirley (el84). Need to finish whats on the bench first (CJ11).
Thanks for posting schematic and pics. Mark.

What is in the bag labled "BAD KOMET"?

Re: 50w Hot Rod Plexi AFD #39
PEC pots that are bad in a Komet clone amp that were really wobbly and trying to repair them was futile.
Re: 50w Hot Rod Plexi AFD #39
Finished Hot Rod Plexi 50 watt number two today and played her for a half hour.

Started on Hot Rod Plexi 50 watt number three board today.
I also got rid of my work bench rug and used some left over peel n stick cork for padding on my work bench. Can easily pickup those pesky eyelets to insert into my boards.
