Hi Hywel

In Aynsleys white combo I think this output is used:
http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/tranf ... ransformer

But you could go with this one in the UK:

As for mains well any 50W Marshall iron jcm800 etc or again in UK:
http://livinginthepast-audioweb.co.uk/i ... rmrvt1566v
Yeah I know its JTM45 type but hey...

The reverb transformer, you could use one from a jcm800 reverb model, marshall still do them as spares.

or maybe try this one:
http://livinginthepast-audioweb.co.uk/i ... frmrvt1484

You'd have to find a matching tank of course.

Also the 2144's have a choke but typical Marshall values of the day will do.

Also for transformers of course there's Hammond stuff which you can get here:

Thanks Shane,

I'm thinking I really should get the Mojo MM OT just to be sure that I am replicating that sound. Probably go for the UK PT. Do I remember you saying that 420v on EL34's anodes will be best? will the PT be in that region (345-0-345 = 485vDC unloaded) ? Or would something like this http://www.classictone.net/40-18095.pdf get me closer?

I need to start by putting a parts list together. Being as this will be my first scratch build I am likely to make some mistakes, but I am thinking that;-
  • 1. Mallory 150s for signal caps. Or are Sozo's worth the extra?
    2. 1w CC for R's except for Anodes and dropping string(MF)
    3. F&T cap cans
The above might be incorrect assumptions and I am intending doing some more reading, but suggestions welcome

Best price/quality pots? And valve bases?

Once I have the parts (and i know the sizes of everything) I will then draw a layout and see which way to go with the turret board. Might just get a generic plexi/jtm pre-punched and install my own turrets.

Cheers for all the help. I will start a new thread for the build when I get there.

Hi Hywel
The Classic tone one is good, lots more options there and will give you ways to get close to the voltages.

Caps..well mallory's are fine and often prefered for Marshall type builds, I know mojo do some nice ones but to be fair the ones in the originals are nothing special, I just use ero/vishays mkt1813 from Farnell or RS, (as do marshall in their hand wired stuff!).

If you want to go the whole hog try some sozo from Modulus.

Resistors.. Marshalls were all thopse old brown half watt hi stab carbon film (apart from the power supply and screens). I'd just go with 1W CF. I dont truly swallow the 'CC sound better' stuff.

F&T can caps are cool so are JJ which are cheaper too.

Pots.. Alpha or CTS will do fine, things like 2W PEC are bomb proof but very pricey!

Valve bases.. just get the best quality ones you can without breaking the bank. the Belton ones he does at Modulus are nice.

Modulus Chassis are designed to take the Belton bases and Alpha 8mm pots.

quite a lot of stuff available at Hot Rox (yeah I know!) too which is near to you.

Thanks again Shane, beginning to get a clearer picture now.

Didn't know Hotrox had expanded into parts, last time I looked they had very little indeed. If he's competetive on price I'll put the business his way, he's a decent chap, had quite a few pedals and stuff from there.
