18 Watt OT & Choke Placement

Post by Blindog »

I picked up a partial 18W build that was in a combo chassis. I'm building a head version, and I wanted some thoughts on placing the choke and OT. I realize that most 18W builds don't have a choke, but the chassis came with a set of Mercury iron for the 18W that includes a choke, so I may as well use it. So per the pic, I've got the choke next to the PT, then the OT.
Any thoughts on would be appreciated!

Looks like the PT and OT coils are out of alignment, which is good. But the only way you can really find the best (quietest) placement is with scope or headphones (the headphone trick).

I've never used the headphone trick. That PT, OT and choke placement will work just fine.

Thanks for the input guys. I'd like to try that headphone trick out sometime. I'll build it this way!

PS- I'll be putting the remains of the combo chassis up for sale soon.
