1 watt Marshalls...
I'm really starting to jones for one of the 1 watt Marshalls, but I refuse to spend $900 for one...
Any pointers to a schematic or layout, or should I just build a preamp and graft it onto a 1 watt SE PA?
TIA.

Re: 1 watt Marshalls...
The reason they cost so much is they are 100w amps that only go to .0011.
That's one less louder.

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Search for the SloWatt. You could use the PA/PI (two ECL84's) and graft the Marshall preamp onto it. I think about five watts, with a LarMar Post-PI master volume.

I really like JTM1. There's a good demo of a guy playing one through a Tele into a 4x12 on the Tube.

One of the designers of the Marhsall 1-watt amps discuss their design here:

Re: 1 watt Marshalls...
And those new 1x10 Marshall pinup cabs...
In love... I want one so bad. If only I knew of really great new 10" speakers. Those cabs are the ones pictured with these 1w Marshalls, right?
Maybe 10" Gold...

Thanks for the link.
a 12au7 in Push-pull...
Could be fun to try...
I just won't pay huge money for one...
I don't care which badge it bears...
I think the JCM 800 could be the one for me...
But I can buy a 50 watt for less...

Re: 1 watt Marshalls...
I've gone through two different 10" speakers, Eminence Legend 105 and Ramrod. The 105 is a great replacement for vintage 10" alnico speakers. Website description is dead-on accurate. The Ramrod is voiced a little different - more aggressive and a bit more efficient. I have a 4 x 10" cab currently fitted with 4 of these little beasts, driven by a plexi clone. Sounds mean. Also drove it last night with my son's JCM800 clone - troubleshooting. Anyway, sounds great. If only I knew of really great new 10" speakers.
I would think either of these speakers would be fine. I'd probably opt for the Ramrod myself.

Thanks for the info. I have gotten word of some old 10s from the sixties that were in some Fender amps, like the Vibrolux, that can be fantastic. I think they are Oxfords and I would love to try a pair with one of my EL84 amps.statorvane wrote:I've gone through two different 10" speakers, Eminence Legend 105 and Ramrod. Re: 1 watt Marshalls...
I have been meaning to try a Marshall front end with the ECL84's. I normally find the bottom-end lacking in low power amps. But Jeff's amp seemed have more bass to it. I thought about a quad of ECL84's for around 10 watts.Zippy wrote:Thanks for the reminder, Lefty.LeftyStrat wrote:Search for the SloWatt. I'd have two left-over triodes, so either an active fx loop, or maybe post PI cathode followers, ala the SSS, just for giggles.
