New Score: Fender Speaker, Sweat and Sour

Post by kevania »

My non musician buddy grabbed this from the curb knowing I would want it.

The owner of the house said it was trash and he could have it. Someone else already took the matching "top thingy"....

The cabinet is solid and has a d130f in it. Unfortunately the coil is open.

Any recommendations for a coil supplier? I've reconed a few pa speakers but nothing with vintage considerations.

Not sure what year it is either.

The drip edge is makes it 67-69 if I recall correctly. Is that a JBL 15"?. I ordered some drop in kits for a pair of JBLs in a Twin that worked out well on a pair of 12" JBLs. Try Orange County speakers.

Weber speakers can likely supply you with the parts to recone it, and as for dating the cab, the aluminum baffle trim makes it a 1968 to mid 69.
Note that the original parts (JBL) to recone these 130s are hard to find and cost a ton, the Weber parts will be re-pro and I have used them and they sound fine and even better with about 8 hours of break in time on 60 cycles!
