Hi all,
I picked up a gutted AB165 Bassman head a few years ago, and I'm trying to decide what to build into the chassis.
Tonewise, I like master volume amps, preferably PPIMV type. I recently bought a new Dr. Z Therapy, which is 2 6L6GC output tubes in cathode bias mode, with two 12AX7A preamp tubes. It's truly an awesome amplifier...probably the best I've ever played. I'm thinking about cloning the circuit for fun...but it would be nice to build something else.
The AB165 is a great platform for an amp...if you had one and weren't afraid of drilling the chassis (the guy before me already drilled it), what would you build? I'm going to buy a 12 x 2.5 inch fiberglass board and some turrets, and put something very cool together.
Thoughts, anyone?
What should I build into a gutted AB165 Bassman?

I should probably mention that I have a NOS in box Stancor A-3801 on the shelf that's been waiting for a build too

Keep in mind... Ken built wrecks in aluminum chassis for a reason. You may be fighting an uphill battle with noise in that steel chassis.

The Normster 16x8x2 Dumble type layout (BrownNote Dlite) works very well in Princeton or Bassman chassis.
