New build AB763 what resistors
Hello there , I'm building a AB763 clone , I have finished the cabinet and got most of my parts , sprauge caps , mercury magnetic transformers , celestion gold alnico speaker and have just finished my eyelet board made out of 4mm fibre glass , my question is which type of resistors are the most reliable and sound the best , best regards Murray.

Hi Murray,
I like Carbon and metal film, they both sound good
Not a big deal to me either way
It's a personal thing and I am sure many will have their preferences
I used carbon on my Princeton reverb build, but I could have reached for metal and been just as happy.
I just finished this build

Re: New build AB763 what resistors
I am the process of unwinding a 68 pro reverb that some one replaced every resistor with MF. The more I remove and install CC the better it is sounding.
And the noise has not increased at all. So, I say, for the most authentic vintage sounding fender use CC. But, as my grandmother always said " To each , his own".

Re: New build AB763 what resistors
you need a few AB CCs for the classic fender tone. try them in the audio path in cases where there is considerable voltage drop or voltage swing across the resistor.

CC or MF
Hello Billyz I'll go with the MFs for now if I don't like the way it sounds or it's too noisy I'll build another board and try the CCs being new at building tube amps I suppose I'll learn the hard way , What resistors did Leo use in the originals . regards Murray.

Re: New build AB763 what resistors
CCs are noisier than MF and distort more (in a good way), but as Roe says, mostly with large voltages. They have the most effect in the PI.

drive in channel 1
Thanks Firestorm , Has anybody made channel 1 into a drive channel and foot switchable , I have searched the threads and can't find anything , maybe someone could point me to a thread , thanks

Re: New build AB763 what resistors
According to Dave Funk use CC resistors on the input jacks, plate load, and the 220k channel mixing. These are the places most critical to good sound.
The world is a better place just for your smile.
Re: New build AB763 what resistors
yes, they have some effect in the PI because of the voltages there. But the considerable amount of negative feedback that fender uses in the PI reduces this effect considerably. Try CF or MF in the PIFirestorm wrote:CCs are noisier than MF and distort more (in a good way), but as Roe says, mostly with large voltages. They have the most effect in the PI.

Re: New build AB763 what resistors
Make a list of carbon comp resistors you need and call or email Steve at http://www.apexjr.com/
Re: New build AB763 what resistors
I'd try AB CC for the 100k plate resistors in the preamp as well as the 100k resistor in the tone stack. Don't try CC resistors after signal caps
