5E3 Double Cap voltage question.

Post by showbander »

Hi all...right i am definitely gonna build the 5e3 double after much pondering.
Firstly on the diagram it dont give the voltages of the caps.
I was wondering if one of you kind people would let me know what they should be please as i cant suss it ! Good start eh :)
Thankyou.

For the large filters 450V is good, the 0.022 with a ? Should be 630V like the other coupling caps, and the two 25uF cathode bypass caps can be 25V-50V.

thanks martin! will 500v for the big caps be ok as i can only seem to source them here in uk ....and only at 47- 22 - 16.
cheers .

A higher voltage rating is fine. For the values they are not that critical so if you are within 20% or so you can call it good.

showbander the value of the bias resistor, first left, is usually around 250 Oms.
100R would bias 6V6 too hot, but maybe I'm missing something in your plan.
There a few other variations from the standard tweed 5E3 circuit there. Is that what you want?

tbh Overtone i just found the ceriatone layout and pasted the turret board here so i was gonna copy that....I did wanna keep close to the 5e3 as poss but with the 4 6v6s tho.
thanks

Four 4 6V6 tubes that should work.

Don't let that smoke out!

i read somewhere that resistor may get hot...but i found this other bias option on weber schematic....what dya reckon stick with the 100r 25 watt...well i dont understand the other option anyway so maybe build to the original layout & see if i get any probs !
Thanks for all the input people :)

Aha. Now I see the whole context and things are clearer:

In this case, that 100R is not the bias resistor at all!
It is drawn where the bias resistor would be in a true 5E3. In both diagrams the bias resistor is shown as 150R.

For a 6V6 quad the 150R bias resistor is where I would start off too.

hey all thanks for all the help and suggestions .. i was wondering what changes i would need to do to add a glass rectifier in place of the copper cap as in diagram the cc isnt run from filament ? , could someone please enlighten me or could i drop the right glass straight in ...thanks

The copper cap is a drop-in replacement for a vacuum rectifier. The schematic shows 5VAC rectifier filament winding connected to pins 8 and 2 of the rectifier socket, so just plug in a GZ34 or 5AR4.
