AB763 Twin filter cap question

Post by Randall »

I am servicing a Blackface Twin that has replaced 22uF@500v where the schematic calls for 20uF@525v. Would you leave them in since it has run this way with no PS issues, or try to sell the guy 3 new caps? I lean towards leaving them in.

Hi, Randall

I lean toward leaving them alone, but I'd inform the customer and let them make the call...

How long have they been in use?

A BF Twin has a B+ of about 450V. So the caps are fine, at least in terms of voltage rating. If the caps have no bulges, and the amp sounds fine, then I would not mess with it.

That add 25V voltage rating is not of significance here.

Have fun!
