Re: Brown Princeton
Thanks fellas, and yep, 1M on the PI grid. I tell you what I've just hit the point in my life where carrying an under 25lb amp with one hand and a guitar in the other is how I wanna roll...turns out the volume control on my guitar really does work as advertised!!

Yup, I played for about 45 years with the guitar's volume and tone controls on 10. It was only 5-6 years ago that I learned about actually USING the guitars volume and tone controls (what a concept). Now I wouldn't do it any other way. You really can do it all without a channel-switching amp.

Re: Brown Princeton
I took a guitar, a 20W amp(similar to this one in concept but a little more juice), and a 20ft cord to rehearsal last night. That's it. Even borrowed the bassist's clip on tuner, which I coincidentally stole from him.

Haha indeed! It was returned to it's rightful(?) owner this weekend. ...or should I say it was liberated yet once again...
Re: Brown Princeton
I like the colorful parts box selection. Looks like you built it using Peanut M&Ms.
Great circuit, finding the right speaker for old Fender styles is the hardest part.

I've been using a RW+Blues here but honestly I'm a big fan of that speaker in just about anything. I got a Texas Heat today, we'll see how that works out.

Re: Brown Princeton
I'm looking to add reverb here with the 1 tube reverb circuit. What do you guys think, would it be better to insert a resistor(100K-220K) between the volume pot and 2nd stage grid and insert it on each side there? Or perhaps between the cap coming off stage 2 plate and the cathodyne grid? If that's the case I guess I'd need to block some DC from draining to ground via the reverb. I'm just wondering which will sound "better", maintaining the original tone the most.
Re: Brown Princeton
If you want reverb you should add it, but keep in mind that the appeal of the brown amps was how in your face they were and a lack of reverb to sweeten them up was a part of that. Of course the Vibroverb had reverb - and it was the least in your face of the browns.
How about a pedal?

Re: Brown Princeton
All good points. This amp will be for a customer, as soon as I find one for it
The last thing I need is another amp ! I've actually got the EQD Levitation, (inspired the psyche festival of the same name), and it's quite good, but more than anything it's about the challenge to get it in the amp.

My first attempt was between the second stage and PI. I got it to work but never sounded good to me. Really changed the base tone of the amp.Smokebreak wrote:I'm looking to add reverb here with the 1 tube reverb circuit. My second attempt was between the volume pot and second stage. That worked but sounded really bad too.
Ended up taking the "send" from the coupling cap coming off the first stage (right before the volume pot) and returning it at the input of the second stage. This seemed to change the base tone of the amp the least and the verb sounds great.
I used SS reverb though....

Re: Brown Princeton
Thanks Deric! Your method was actually my other option
so thanks for the report on the 3 ways. Out of curiousity, did you fiddle at all with the 330K resistor at all?
Re: Brown Princeton
I know I spent some time messing around with the 330k/470k resistors to find a nice balance while trying to maintain the tone of the amp. It's been long enough I have no idea what other values I tried though...
